Hi there!
This is edu muñoz from spain.
I´m working ussually with the European sytem (PAL) but often works with the NTSC system. I was looking for a new HD camcomder and look bettwen Sony HVR-Z1 (because it switch from PAL to NTSC) and Panasonic ag hvx 200. Them i decided for the Panasonic because it fits better for the work i´m doing.
The problem it´s that Panasonic ag hvx 200 says that doesn´t switch from one system to the
other.
But then i heard that with some changes on the internal menu it´s possible to change the frame rates, etc.
Does anybody know anything about this? It´s true? Can be possible maybe to change or switch from one system to other?
It somebody knows anything about it, it will help me out a lot to clear all the doubts about buying it.
Thanks a lot for all!

No you can't swith between PAL and NTSC. You would have to convert the footage in post.

There is a workaround which involves editing the scene file - it is undocumented and you do it at your own risk. Search this forum for a posting from Barry which explains the coding convention. In my opinion it's safer to change in your NLE.

That workaround I think you are speaking about does not make it ntsc-pal compatible. Still 60hz vs 50hz. Just extra available framerates.

Not switchable but you can do it in a different way and you must have Final Cut Pro 5 to have cinema tools
I shoot a lot for europe. What I do is record in 720 23.97 and when I finished my product I import it in cinema tools en conform it to 25 framesbring it back in a DV50 PAl timeline and voila. The only thing is it will be progressive. In my case it doesn't matter because it is only for commercials. But yes in a certain way you can make PAL without loss of quality

Hi, my first post... I´m also considering buying NTSC although I´m in PAL area

Would it be a good idea buying the HVX200 NTSC to capture in 24p, and use Avid Express Pro, and then convert to any format? Does Cinema Tools give you any freedom that Avid Express doesn´t?
