Panasonic AC130 and AC160

All the panasonic fixed-lens cameras in this series (HVX, HMC150, DVX, HPX170) have a true manual zoom with a servo motor, so it's pretty safe to guess that it's both.

They also have a built-in mic, as well as XLRs for attaching external mics, but none of them include the shotgun mic, that's always been optional. Presumably it will be the case here too.

As for the focus peaking, the prototypes showed the EVF DTL button so you can count on that.

As for the 1:1, that's not known at this point because as far as I know nobody's seen a working prototype or an owner's manual.

I guess what I meant to ask was if it the zoom was servo only ala hmc40. Sounds like it's not. What I like about current servo only zooms is that alot of them have a ramp feature that prevents hard stops. This smooths out when the zoom stops.

No, the zoom will definitely not be servo only. It has the same type of sliding switch as the 170 etc., and the marketing materials say it's a true mechanical zoom.

As such, I wouldn't expect it to have the same sliding smooth stop type of zoom that the servo-only cameras have.

The specs aren't released yet, but I would find it extremely likely that the HPX250 has full 10-bit out. It is designed around a 10-bit architecture going to a 10-bit codec.

The AC160 uses an 8-bit codec. I would not be surprised if it had 8-bit output. But we won't know for sure until they release the specs or until a production model ships.

I hope it does, as it would mean the best of both worlds: 8-bit AVCHD + 10-bit 4:2:2 SDI out. The Sony NX5U does exactly this: 8-bit AVCHD internal with 10-bit 4:2:2 SDI out.

there have been cameras with 10 bit out and built in 8bit codec (nx5, ex1, ex3) so, its plausible it could happen

i dont think it would be undercutting the 250.
if you want a cheaper cam with built in 10bit codec, 250 would still be cheaper than buying a 160 and a 10bit recorder. (if youre upgrading from your old p2 cam workflow its cheaper.. basically i see p2 as a broadcast workflow than for just an individual)

So B&H has the AC160 available for pre-order. Just in case anyone was wondering :) I'm trying to decide if I will use the features of the 160 or if I should wait for the 130 to be released for pre-order. I've never needed VFR, so maybe I'll wait... decisions, decisions!
