Panasonic 4K GH4 possibly coming next Spring...

50% faster sensor so less rolling shutter and dual 3G SDI output?
yes. the gh4 is looking more and more promising.

i've never used a gh system before. what exactly is avc-intra?

AVC/Intra is a codec used by Panasonic. It's a very good broadcast codec that records up to 100mbps, in 10-bit, 4:2:2 color.
If this camera really has this codec, it will be a fantastic camera. I see why there's info that says it can record to micro P2 cards.

ah i see, thanks guys.
10bit, 422 would be fantastic.
are we to assume this is available at 4k or for lower res?

edit: i see the latest rumor has it that it wont have avc/intra.

No AVC Intra - All-Intra or IBP.

It looks like for 4K 10-bit output you will need the adapter. Otherwise available via HDMI at full HD.

...I suspect that people are confusing things here, as I think there is no viable AVC-Intra solution for 4K video with this camera because of the hardware/memory-speed demands of 4K, so 4K video will likely use the MPEG-4 CODEC at bit-rates up to 200 Mbps. ( but 1080p video might use the AVC-Intra CODEC )

I didn't think AVC/Intra could handle 4K, but AVC/Ultra can. If this camera can only record 1080 HD in AVC/Intra, it'd still be a heck of a camera.

i agree, 1080p avc/intra would still be a nice option to have.
how frame rates?
what has been the rumour about high frame rates in lower res?

4K has maximum bit rates of 100Mbps IBP. 200Mbps is for full HD. Again, there is no AVC-Intra.

One thing is 100% sure about the GH4K: That there is absolute, positively nothing shure about what is going to have or lack. We all have to wait until friday to be 100% informed by Panasonic what the deal is. It's that simple.

I own the GH3 and the stills are pretty good but the only time I would use it for a job is in an emergency! Nikon for stills, GH3 for video. No other way for me. Micro 4/3 will never become a favorite of professional photographers for stills.

Well. I would not make a blanket statement like that. It was only by pure accident that ( upon my supposed retirement from shooting stills full time for money) that I doscovered a unique property of my 'toy' 2/3 sensor Nikon Coolpix .
Namely - KILLER resolution in ultra-close ups. So I tested it for 10 years (then added a second point and shoot) and the results absolutely pass my critical eye for 100% of screen and up to 8"X10" print distribution.
So even as I write this, I have assignments in waiting that will be shot with what is supposed to be an unusable camera for stills.
However. That's not the same as saying my point and shoots can do video, which they absolutely cannot.
M43 is therefore... Ideal for Ultra close up and probably Macro and about 90% still up to 100Meters. Beyond and for way larger display - APS-C, DX and FF are definitely better
Have a look at my coolpix 5000 & 8800 work...

The attachment looks hilarious, but it may be exactly what we've all wanted. Hopefully its external recording is good. If they can really pull it all off this will be great for the market, I just hope the DR is good enough. It'll take a while for all the relevant information to finally come out, and tests be carried out, but definitely shots fired by Panasonic. Smart move to do it this far ahead of NAB. Suspect the attachment will cost another 1k minimum though.

Looking good! Two questions:

Why can't they, or haven't they, made this in the AF100 or traditional video camera form when it's obvious main focus is video?

And would it ever be possible to add a power zoom lens to M43 cameras like you can to APS-C cameras (when using Sony's 18-105 f/4 E-Mount Power variable speed Zoom lens)?

Costs. This camera will sell many times more than an AF100. They "only" had to take a GH3 housing and put a 4K sensor inside.

There already exist M43 power zooms. Not dedicated video lenses but it shows that it's technically possible.

One speculation: If the camera grabs real 4K and not only ulta HD and the 4:3 sensor with its 16 MP had the slightly bigger size of the GH2 sensor, a 1:1 pixel crop would still have almost the same field of view as the GH3.
