Panasonic 4K GH4 possibly coming next Spring...

No worries, I get exactly where you're coming from, and like I said, you sound more than mature enough to responsibly interpret and handle what you're seeing. If we could all be that way, there'd be no problems at all; I just get frustrated with dealing with the fallout of people actually buying into this stuff, that's all. I appreciate the tone you've taken in this discussion, and hope that you have found my tone respectful of your views as well, because that's how I mean it to come across.

Thanks, Barry. Absolutely, I found your tone respectful, and I appreciate that too.

Ian-T and groveChuck: Haha

Look at that - peace, love, understanding, and respect all around in this holiday season! Cheers, everyone!

As for NAB, I was just trying to make the point that that show has a similar, and probably stronger effect on camera sales in the months ahead of the show than rumor sites do, before any official announcement of any new gear. I've never heard anyone say that they're going to hold off on their camera purchase based on some wild rumor, while I have heard many times people say that they hold off on a purchase in the months ahead of NAB, and recommend that others do the same.

The trouble with even waiting for NAB is that most cameras are still months away. So if January 1st 2014 if you're looking to buy a new camera by January 1st 2015 it makes sense to wait until the camera is announced in April at NAB & then starts to ship in October - December. But if on January 1st you don't want to wait (or have a project that you can't wait) for 6-12 months before you get your next camera, then there is no reason to wait for NAB, buy (or rent) what is on the market today.

It's a concept camera just like the 4K camcorder at NAB.

Looks just like someone stuck a 4K sticker on a GH3. I don't see any other differences which would indicate this as an actual concept and not just a promise of a 4K DSLR but they have no body prototype they can show.

Nice find Noel. Here's something else from their facebook page, very exciting - the 4K Varicam. I think I'll delay my decision to buy an F3 til NAB since I don't need it right now. Even at $6K I could use those funds for a possible 4K camera purchase:

The Vericam 4K prototype was underglass at NAB 2 years ago. Panasonic is not moving quick there. I don't believe the GH4K pictured is anything other than a GH3 with a new sticker and only used to demonstrate to 4K TV buyers that Panasonic will be bringing out 4K DSLR cameras and create more 4K hype to sell TVs at CES.

The GH4K if it happens won't be in the exact same body as a GH3. It will be similar sure but that camera in the picture is just a GH3.

Emm from CheesyCam just posted this image with this caption on Instagram; "Just talked to a Panasonic rep about upcoming GH4K camera. I'm sold..."CCGH4K.jpg

I hope that the camera alone does come out to around $2000, but has an attachable battery grip type deal that adds some badly needed connections/battery life. I'm hoping the actual camera comes out to be a bit bigger than the GH3, but maybe not quite as big as a 1DC. I think that's what the idea behind this camera is, an MFT 1DC at a reasonable price for those who don't need a top level pro camera too. All that being said, if the camera doesn't have 10-bit it'll be disappointing. Downscaled 10bit 4k into 2k would look amazing though, and hopefully it does a good job in the 800-1600 ISO range. Even if it's not everything you'd need, and in particular the fact that it's MFT not S35 will turn people off, it'll definitely drive down the prices for the last generation of cameras (C100/FS100).

Personally, if the price is right, I'll be getting this camera to go along with a Sigma 18-35 and one of those Speed Boosters (making the sigma like a 10-22 MFT lens), which should give me the versatility I need for a couple years.

Khm... How would a speedbooster make an 18mm lens go beyond it focal capabilities? An 18mm is app 36mm on MFT add a speedbooster and it gets app. 27mm...

18-35mm f/1.8 on m43 is equivalent to 36-70mm f/3.5 on fullframe, and on m43+sb it is equivalent to 26-50mm f/2.5 on fullframe

two problems with this camera for me:
* I want a bigger sensor (my lens set is designed for FF, or APS-C with speedbooster)
* I don't need higher resolution, but I want better DR

exciting times anyway

Sorry, had a brain fart there and was probably misreading something about the Canon 10-22. -.- it should be 13-25mm, plus the DoF it adds. So the 27mm is correct.

Well I guess the sensor size is probably not going to be that much different but do we know whether or not their is going to be improved DR on this cam?
