Panasonic 14-140 lens making a strange noise?

I received a new GH2 today with the 14-140 Kit lens. After setting it up in Video mode I noticed that there was a strange wurring noise coming from the lens. At first I put it down to either the I.O.S or the autofocus, but after turning them both off I noticed it was still there? I have a Canon 70-200 mm so I am familiar with the IS on that.

The noise changes when I alter the focal length. With the lens twisted right round to the 14mm end it stops, but as I zoom it starts and continues when I stop? The internal mike does catch the sound.

Before I send it back could other people check their's to see if it does the same? Turn off I.O.S and select manual focus, do you still get a high pitched spinning noise from the lens.

Thanks for your help

mine on a gh1 makes a tiny whirring noise if i put my ears right up next to it in a dead silent room IOS on and off. It however decreases in noise when i extend to 140mm, with my ears pushed up on it. Its not high pitched, very low hardly audible, i have never picked up the noise in my recordings though, well it isn't loud enough for me to notice it.

I had a 14-140 that got damaged in shipping. There was something on the front lens element, otherwise was perfect. I checked around and found out THERE WERE NO PARTS AVAILABLE !!! I then contacted a lens shop and asked for a quote. They reported back the same thing, no parts available from Panasonic. He was then going to check with a supplier in Singapore, haven't heard back from him. The shipping company covered the claim, so the lens is their now. If you have something with your lens and it is in warranty, I would contact Panny and send it right back to them.

That was my 14-140 experience, of course, YMMV.

It seems to be Aperture related but even with the gain on the mic on 1 it still picks it up. So I have returned it.... apart from that I was really impressed with the camera. Will try again.

Thanks for your help.
