EVA1: PANA RAW LOG - what LUT / what to grade with?

So there is the vlog to 709 for v35 LUT for shooting LOG on the EVA1, but as I discovered in another thread, when outputting a RAW signal to a *video* recording over SDI (Such as ProRes or DNxHR) the signal does NOT record as standard vlog. It records as a different format, specifically: "a 10Bit LOG RAW file. Instead of it using Vlog, it uses PANA RAW LOG, which has a different curve. This is why is looks flatter than a linear signal, but not as flat as normal VLOG footage."

Is there a LUT for the PANA RAW LOG curve? How should this be handled in post for grading?

If you're using Resolve, I would do a transform to Linear first, followed by another transform to VLog, then apply your Pana Rec 709 LUT if thats how you roll.

FG why do t you "reach out" to Mitch.

Any log camera should have a delog lut issued by the camera maker.. one that works

Why would you want to do that?
Just use the VLog transform to your timeline gamma/gamut, no need for a LUT.

do which ?

The first transform is because the Log for the Pro Res Raw aint Vlog, so its just to bringing it to Linear, and then to Vlog which is where the OP wanted to start.

As for the Vlog to Rec 709 LUT, a lot of guys use it for speed, personally I try to stay away from log - 709 luts. I prefer to expand LOG in Resolve just using contrast, pivot and sat, assuming the WB is correct to start with, then save that as a power grade and boom, quick as a lut but with full flexibility, but maybe thats just the inner tweaker in me :)

Why would you want to do that?

Sorry Dan, I've no idea. I barely looked at Premiere ages ago, decided to use FCPX instead as it was less cluttered, but now only use Resolve as it can do everything I want without any round tripping or needing damn cursed plugins.

Thanks Murph. Is there a way to do this in Premiere?

Also want to add a question here:

Where does the demosaic process happen when outputting RAW, but not recording RAW to a recorder and instead recording video?

My understanding was that when shooting RAW, the image is debayered by the NLE. But when outputting RAW and recording to video... does the Atomos recorder do so?

How might this compare quality wise to actual RAW?

Well, where are you recording it?

The Atomos Inferno can accept the EVA1 RAW signal in 4K and 2K and record them as one of three formats:

- EVA1 RAW -> CinemaDNG RAW (4K30p, 2K120p)
- EVA1 RAW -> ProRes RAW (5.7K30p [soon], 4K60p, 2K240p)
- EVA1 RAW -> deBayer into video, record as ProRes or DNX (4K60p, 2K240p)

Or if you want you can take the CinemaDNG files into Premiere, Resolve or other programs and process them into video there. For ProRes RAW, the only current option is FCPX, where the files remain as RAW until the final export at the end.

If the EVA-1 raw output is 10 bit log lossless, it might follow the industry standard Cineon log curve used for film scans.
Don't know this for fact regarding the EVA-1, but the 10 bit log lossless CDNG mode in Slimraw is Cineon.
