Pampuri AF100 "Kyoto Avec l'AG-AF101 Panasonic"

I'm glad he posted all this footage, but with no shutter being used (massive motion blur), and really none of the shots locked down without hunting around, it's tough to tell exactly what we have here. Still seeing the peaking stuff. Reminds me a little of how my HVX would capture some footage with Letus. Makes me wonder whether the sort of glass used is coming in to play with the peaking. Would also love to know, with everyone's footage, exactly what glass is shooting what.

man why is every piece of clothes in this video so noisy? mostly the dark clothes in shadow. just noise everywhere. is this normal?

I think some people are just more negative nellies than filmmakers.... Lamenting the trivialities and flaming things without justification, or for whatever reason. Buy it or not... who really cares?

Barry, LoganMackay does not speak for all of us. All of your efforts are greatly appreciated by some of us and having clips to view has be very helpful. Sorry if the comments got out of hand, But if there were no clips then can you imagine the Sh#* storm.

I too support the efforts of Barry, Philip, and the rest.

I believe many of us are hoping this camera will allow us to get a film look without the hastle of dealing with soft-looking 35mm adapters (and aliasing dslrs). It is just that the AF100 seems like everything we have dreamed about, so now we are all collectively hoping that it can be near perfect from the start....

It is important to notice that especially on this user group, we have been encouraged to 'get our orders in early', and many people have... So now there is a strong desire that nobody buys a camera that may have a issue that gets corrected later on. If the issue(s) CAN be corrected with a software update, then all is well. But if it takes a new sensor (for example) then those of us who supported this product early will have a camera that feels heavy.

I for one would like to see it released with certain things corrected. I do not think it is trivial.... We have our orders in... so we have bought it. We have a full interest, which means we are now stakeholders.

Thanks.

Is it not better we notice things and it improves the design and engineering process?
That's been happening for weeks already. Having some sweeping proclamations about "it's flawed, the highlight handling is broken!" just serves to inflame and isn't improving the design or engineering process of this model.

There will be clips. I just wish that nobody had posted these off-the-cuff clips (and I'm the first offender, I posted the first raw clip). I wish we had the sense to wait until we were certain of what we'd shot. But there's always a rush to be first when everyone's clamoring for it. I think it was a mistake that hasn't served the audience or the product well at all.

You misunderstand my post. I am in no way unhappy with what was posted, but I am irritated by the constant complaining about issues that have already been explained time and time again. I think Barry and I are likely on the same page as far as what has come of the clips being posted.

Barry,

I think people realize this camera is going to be amazing. Once it realeases though, it needs to avoid certain issues or else people can latch onto one problem and declare the camera as flawed.

That said, Panasonic has fixed the biggest problems:

No Moire
No Aliasing
Professional Camera Features are Standard
Big Sensor

But suppose it gets released next month and everybody starts shooting people in slightly overexposed situations (which most cameras can handle to a certain degree).... Before you know it, Vimeo will be inundated with millions of samples... Then Panasonic will really see the flames.

All this can be avoided, if action is taken now.

My 2 cents.

I understand your position. And I assure you that there will be adequate, properly-produced, properly-tested footage available long before you have to take possession.

The clips you have seen so far, are not it. They are off-the-cuff, handheld, first-footage stuff. Nothing that should be used to judge, because none of this footage has been from shooters in controlled conditions who have properly profiled the camera and used it to its best effect. In other words, what you've seen has no bearing on what the unit will be capable of. So getting bent out of shape or upset or worried, is not an appropriate reaction.

I don't think anyone should buy any product sight-unseen. And I don't think anyone should be buying because I say I like it, or Philip says he likes it... what we prefer doesn't necessarily reflect what any individual buyer's preferences are.

With that said, I also recognize that there are many people who simply won't have a chance to try it themselves. I used to live in Las Vegas, where there were zero professional video dealers -- there was simply no way to see the product without driving 300 miles to Los Angeles. So I recognize that some folks will have to rely on reviews, on the opinions of users they trust, etc. I take that responsibility seriously, because I put the users first. And because of that, I again assure you -- nobody will have to buy sight-unseen, blind to the facts. I will get to the bottom of it. You will know, before you have to part with your hard-earned cash.

All I'm saying is -- have patience. What you have seen has way too many variables in it to be of any definitive value for making such an important decision off of.

Barry,

I think your raw clip is near perfect. Nothing wrong with it.

Yes, I think so. I was agreeing with you.

I think clips should be posted, but I think that these clips were not what should have been posted. I think it does nobody any favors to show footage from folks who don't yet know how to get the best out of it. What's the point of that? First footage from someone just picking up any camera, does nobody any good. What you really want to see is what it can look like in proper hands (i.e., can it truly deliver "the goods"?) and also, what are the limits you shouldn't be going beyond? Those are the two things I'm interested in. And those are the kind of results I intend to post.

All I can say is: stay tuned. You will have all the info you need to make an informed decision. But you will have to excercise patience, as it's going to be several weeks before that stuff can be produced and released.
