PAL's Extra Resolution Worth It?

Is it worth it to get the European DVX just to get the extra 100 lines of resolution? I mean, I know I'd have to de-interlace from 25p to 24p, so maybe that resolution loss (assuming there would be one) would make the extra rez moot. Am I right?

You don't have to de-interlace from 25p tot 24p (it is progressive to progessive). You footage will play 4% slower than real-time, but visually no-one will really notice. You might have to increase the pitch of your audio by 4% because everything is gonna be a bit lower in pitch (in audio: slower is lower).
Overall I would say if you want to have an all-round camera with which you are going to do all sorts of things, save yourself the trouble and buy an NTSC camera. If you want a camera specially for one project where you want to have the most rez, you could consider a PAL.

Well, my other option at this point is to get the Sony FX1 and de-interlace in post. I'm going for a look like in MacGregor's SIMILO, (which amazingly was shot on the DVX). I'm planning on getting a G35 as well thanks to that short. I guess I just want the most cinematic picture possible, and it'd be nice to be able to transition into HD-DVD/Blu-Ray land when the time comes. Ugh, I'm almost ready to tear my eyes out over this one.

If you haven't seen SIMILO, here's what I mean.

Try that feature of deinterlance, you will notice that your video will be soft
when you render after you deinterlance. HDV seem to be good but i guess its
just a trial version unlike the DVCproHD. Depending whether you prefer to be
detail filmmaker or just a broadcast user.

By the way FX1 is no longer in production, maybe becoz its prosumer range of HDV.
Z1 is available just for your information. But given a recommendation Hv
X200 is the way to go.
