PAL vs NTSC in 24p resolution wise?

Hi everybody,

I know, this is a strange question, but is there any info on resolution of PAL vs NTSC model of DVX100b in 25/24p mode?
PAL interlaced is 576 lines and NTSC interlaced is 486 lines. Ok, these are obviously details of the recorded signal, but does it imply that CCD sensors are different in PAL/NTSC models?
Is there any difference in resolution in progressive mode between PAL and NTSC versions?
If there is, that could explain why PAL version costs 20-30% more, but personally I think that it has something to do with taxes and regulations.

Kind regards,
Denis.

Pal has more resolution by design, but is at 25p (I'm not sure about the exact pixel count). NTSC DV is 720x 480, and the DVX is able to do that at 24p.

I have no idea why the PAL version would cost more, but taxes and stuff sound right to me.

Yep, it is mostly the taxes, stricter warranty regulations and the fact that we in Europe are a bit more used to getting screwed than the Yanks :-| If you are "fine" with 52% income tax, you surely won't mind paying a few hundred Euro more for a camera...

I am not 100% sure about DVX, but for many other camcorders, the difference between PAL and NTSC is in firmware only.
