PAL VHS tape? How do I play it?

My friend just recieved a VHS tape from a friend in the UK. He's trying to figure out a way that he can play it since it's in PAL format.... He's already tested it on a regular NTSC vcr and obviously it's not compatible. Guys I told him I could turn to the DVX users and they would know what to do! Is there any hope left? Or should I just tell him to trash it? Let me know! thanks

Im sure there are pal compatible vcr on the market in the USA. i dont know about prices though.
Here in europe (normally PAL) even low end vcrs are now ntsc compatible. at least they allow you to see the tape. hardly to record.
