PAL to NTSC?

The search feature didn't help much, so I'll try this here:

What would be the drawbacks of using a PAL HPX172 Camera on an NTSC country?

Is it delivery? (most DVD players that I know are universal)
Is it display? (a lot of televisions can display BOTH Pal and NTSC signals these days)
Is it some other technical issue? (perhaps for distribution to TV stations)

The HPX can do 30PN so wouldn't that be close enough to 29.99997?

A lot of videos end up either played on DVDs or on a webpage, so I don't understand what the technical issues would be there.

Oh Okay. It's just that I've heard somewhere that Panasonic can modify NTSC HPX170s so that they can be NTSC / PAL. Why would anyone want their HPX modified then? Would a factory mod only be useful to NTSC users?

Anyone who works with both video standards would appreciate having the modification done. Getting a wrong-territory product is just a hassle that you don't really want to deal with. What do you do for a monitor, bring your own? How do you handle shooting under fluorescents or shooting TV screens... got to keep on top of that. And what about delivery? As far as I know, PAL DVD players can play NTSC discs, but not the other way around. And many HDTVs don't support both standards.

Get the unit that works for your country's television system. If you need both, an HPX171E or a USA-upgraded HPX170 is the best way to go.

It would be an idea to make the factory modification available to PAL users as well.
Not sure if I'd part of my PAL HPX172 to have it modified in the US though...

You couldn't anyway, the US factory only modifies US-model HPX170 units.

You could ask in the country where you bought the 172 if they offer the modification... I don't think I've heard of any territory other than the US offering the mod though.
