I'd like to try shooting 1080p 50fps for use in a 25fps project, and am confused as to which lpowell patch might be best. I don't need max bitrate or native progressive - any advice very welcome.
 
The GH1 is not capable of shooting in 1080/50. Hacked, or not, doesn't matter-the sensor doesn't support that. Your best bet is 720/50P, then conform to 25P in post processing. Reliable In Camera Patch, or the Blackout/Lpowell patch will work. Go the the GH1 Firmware Hacks page, and read the information on the available hacks.

i personally like the lpowell/blackout 24p patch, i didn't go for the 25p PAL native patch because you lose the 50fps in 720p SH mode.

i used the 24p lpowell/blackout patch and set the 1080p GOP length to 15 from 12, the 720p stays at 12.

its been working a treat for me in PAL land.

yeah you would have to shoot 720p 50fps and within your editor confirm to 25fps from its native 50fps, then scale to fit the 1080p document set up.

wont be as clear as 1080 but should still be good enough quality.

The Blackout-Powell Patch is my recommendation for 50p recording as well. In the currently available V2 version of the patch, the 1080p GOP-size is set to 15 as terra1 suggests, so there is no longer a need to revise any of its settings before use.
