PAL HVX200P now available in USA

Mentioned this in another thread; but the HVX PAL version is available from B&H, and has been for a few weeks now.
As they normally do in this situation, they charge full retail price ($5995.00 USD), and I'd recommend the MACK warranty also, but it's great to have this available.

....now don't go out and buy them all, save one for me! :)

P.S.: disregard the SPECIFICATIONS and DESCRIPTIONS on those B&H pages, they just never bothered to update their site to actually show the PAL specs; so it states 24p, and such errors.

WHAT??

6000 dollars?-**** off, as a european buyer i feel really ****ed up by panasonic..you guys dont wanna know what we have to pay here for the same...thats a shame...get it folks!

I hear you germanboy,
unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your location! :) most companies sell their product at a cost that is in tune with what they can charge, not how much it is sold in other countries.

Also, if the price-difference is THAT much, one could always:

- have a someone in USA order it from B&H and shipped outside of New York state (to avoid NY state sales tax).
- fly to the USA with an old camera bag
- pick up the HVX and remove all packaging, etc.
- fly back to home country with a brand new HVX in an old cam bag, and pretend it's just a little camcorder that one had with, to shoot some holiday home movies.

Drug trafficking?
No, HVX trafficking!
Still illegal though....sort of.

6000/ 1,25 = (€4800)*16 % VAT = €5568 . The same price, we get it in Germany, so can´t see any advantage to buy it in the US (if you don´t buy it personally there but not paying VAT is a kind of illegal).

Looking at the B&H page further, I think whoever put the "PAL" into it just didn't know what he was talking about. There's nothing about it to suggest it's PAL other than the "P," which as we all know does NOT stand for "PAL". I think the writer thought it did.

Aye. I made a reference in the original post regarding this.
They simply copied most of the NTSC version over. I've seen them do it before with new PAL equipment. Sometimes they just leave the specs off completely, which I'd actually prefer.

Eventually they will get it right.

Not sure why you'd want a PAL HVX in the US. If you want higher resolution than NTSC, don't shoot SD.

What if one wishes to film in the US for distribution in PAL countries? They could then shoot and edit in their final framerate without having to convert.

Having made that statement, I can't really see this happening too often, though...

I know of ONE such scenario! :)

No, I don't think the mistake was in copying the NTSC specs; the mistake was in calling it a PAL camera at all. Like I said, I think the writer just thought the "P" meant "PAL."

Ah, okay, I see what you mean now.

Rest assured though, that it IS a PAL camera, and that the only error is in the DESCRIPTION on their web pages.
For everyone's peace-of-mind, I've asked them to correct the web pages, so hopefully they will update it soon to reflect the correct PAL specs.

I am not sure what you payd, but for me it was 7000 EURO (tax inclusice), so yes, this is much more expensive!!

I just feel pissed about it, cause the same **** happens again and again with the software in the US/Europ...i dont think that there is any reason behind it..!
And we are waiting since MONTH for the promotion bag from pana..i respect if there is any problem, ibut i was supposed to get it in mid-april, what, mid august now??

The last time i called pana, 2 weeks ago, they told me: "you will receive the bag in 10 days maximum..!"-still waiting.

I told them to check dvxuser and Jans superb service allover here, to be ashamed how they treat customers in europe..its a pitty!
