Hi

Could someone just straighten something out for me please?

If I film in F6 (Cinemode) or F5 (24p) -

a) What's the difference
b) Will the footage be ok to put on a DVD and watch on TV? (is it non-interlaced)
c) Is there anywhere on here you could point me to more info about these modes

Thanks.

A PAL DVX100A doesn't have 24p at all, both F5 and F6 would be 25p. The difference is in the thin/thick setting and in the default gamma setting.

Neither are interlaced, and both are suitable to be put on a DVD and watched on TV.

There’s no 24p on a PAL DVX. Only 50i and 25p. The differences between F5 and F6 (both 25p) are in gamma settings and so forth, basically, how the camera responds to the light when it comes in – how it treats the blacks, how saturated it makes the colors, etc. It’s a matter of artistic choice between them.

Barry - I've just ordered your book and DVD, does it also cover the PAL version of the camera (suppose I should have asked before ordering).

Well, of course, it does cover most aspects of the work with PAL version, since the only difference between the 2 cameras is available framerates and vertical resolution, and that's something Barry just couldn't test/review (not that it would be worth the hassle). All the menu options, recording settings, techniques, etc. are same.
Can't wait for my copy :)
