Hey!
Just wanted to make sure [after reading through the forum].
Is there a problem in certain aspects of the DVX100 while using the PAL version of the camera?
ive seen some stuff about 24p problems ... not being able to work with such a PAL 24p format in editing softwares etc.. [turns into 25fps?]

is that ture?

are there anymore conflicts\troubleshoots in terms of the whole making of a movie [shooting+editing+etc] while using the PAL version of the DVX100?

thanx!

No, the PAL version works perfectly. What is commonly used is simply 25p instead of 24p for "film look" which you seem to be after.

For the rare occasion where someone would like to blow up to 35mm film, there are fairly simple solutions, but for everything else, 25p is just perfect (for a lack of a better word).

By the way, for simplicity: the NTSC version shoots 24P, 30P, and 60i; the PAL version shoots 25P and 50i.
You should buy the version that is most common in your country.

well...i thought everything was A ok with the PAL version untill you post your second reply.
so you say there Isnt a 24p mode in the PAL version? only 25?
why is that?

why in the NTSC there are 3 shooting modes and in the PAL there are 2?

isnt there a way of shooting in 24p at all? will that 1frame difference do that much? [i guess so].

damn thats not fair!
i want 24p only! [instead of maybe slow mo shooting-then using normal\higher fps count].

No need to worry about the PAL version, you wont notice the differance between 24p and 25p. I actually heard the PAL version has some little resolution advantages over the NTSC version. How that works, i dont know, maybe someone else can anwser that.
Bottomline:
If your in a PAL country, you dont want to have a NTSC camera...

P.S. Talking about 25p/24p: how do you set up 25p in Premiere? I have version 2.0 and there are a few standards, including 24p, but no 25p. Thanks...

Simple answer is:

NTSC DV: 720x480
PAL DV: 720x576

I don't do Premiere, but you should be able to just start a project in PAL DV (50i) and change its preferences/settings/properties to PROGRESSIVE instead of UPPER FIELD FIRST or LOWER FIELD FIRST.

^^ Yah, that's the way to do it. Set the frame rate at 25, and set fields to none (progressive).

ok ok....lets go:

1.you say that there is no difference in Pic quality between 25vs24p.
i hope so.
but why in NTSC you have 3 modes [24+30+60i] and in Pal only 25p+50i?

2.IS there a chance i will buy the camcorder...shoot something... approach the computer and find out i Cannot edit the stuff i recorded?
IS there a chance AVID and Premiere will reject it?
Or itll let me edit...but the final product will be defective?

Basically, if i wanna edit in that special 25p mode-i need to START a project [or timeline-if in middle of edit] with certain Settings? then i could edit?
what will happen if i wont do it?

3.sorry for the noobie-ism ..but wtf is progressive and does it have anything to do with the term-interlaced [opposites?].

thanx! u rock :]

eladbari,
I think it might be best if you google some basic digital video information. There is a LOT of information already out there that discusses ALL of these issues you have concerns with.

Here's two:
http://www.amazing.com/dv/dv-faq.html
http://www.videoforums.co.uk/guide-shopping-23.htm

Right now, it appears that every answer will prompt three more questions; this is normally indicative that one should get some basic information; information that is much too difficult to provide you on this forum. Check out those links above and do your own google search; there are literally thousands of helpful sites with tons of information out there just begging to be read; all it will require is a little time of yours to read it.

hey...thanx for the links!
i see i have some homework to do now :]
i really hope these specific links adresses my questions..
would still appreciate if you'd refer to these last question ive asked.
thanx!
