PAL 25p frameyness

hey everybody, got a question concerning the progressive look of the hvx using it in MiniDV mode. Anyway.. i set the camera 576p and the movement is a very nice film like movement, the thing is, when there is fast motion it looks strobe like, or really framey, like its very sensitive to fast movement. Is there some kind of conversion going on when the hvx shoots 25p to tape? and is there a difference in the 25p to tape than the 25pn on p2 cards?

Im just wondering because ive seen that strobe framey look on many films in action scenes, but i thougt it was the result of a different framerate and other tweeking, not standard 25p. .. btw.. i change my shutterspeed also but still the effect is there..

thanx

That's normal. What you can do is make those fast movements either more defined, but less confortable, with a faster shutter speed, or softer ( looks like there's a blur when quick panning) using a slower shutter speed.

ok, yeah thats what i thought also, i suspected it was a normal thing, im sure in films the movement looks smoother because the use of steady and cranes etc..

thats for sure, you can check this also in barrys book, this is a limitation that is not coming from the hvx, but from 25p-its the same if you record on 16 or 35mm....so you have to work around this, like mentioned above...or shoot-interlaced!-which is not really a help..!

yeah .. interlaced is out of the question, well not out of the question, some projects might require that, but anyway.. I also heard that turning the shutter speed up might smoothen the motion out a bit, the thing is i cant compare this in HD mode, because i dont have a p2 card yet, thats why im wondering if motion in 25pn is different in HD resolutions.. than the 25p of the miniDV mode.
