Paint Splatter Effect

I'm trying to create a menu in after effects CS3 where the text comes down and splatters like liquid hitting a hard surface. As if the text is paint, and the back menu layer is a table. Since it's a menu, I'll have a text layer that doesn't splatter, for readability, and the splatter end in ring around the text. Additionally, I also may change the color of the splatter for selection.

But I can't find an effect that helps with this. I'm relatively new to AE, so I'm sure I'm missing something. Ideas?

About 30 seconds into the demo video on that page, they show a paint effect. Do you NEED this product? No. But it's not expensive and it comes with alot more.

Or, just check out the the Ink Man tutorial on the same sight. I'm pretty sure you don't need Riot Gear for it.

Riot gear is great. It is very cheap as well. Videocopilot is the SH!T!!! I love that site.
