P2Viewer... Thumbnails there, video isn't?

Anyone have this issue? I have two virtual P2 cards on the P2Store, which is USB'd to my computer. P2 Viewer displays the thumbnails and metadata in the primary bin when "virtual cards" is selected.

I've had this happen before, but can't remember how I finally got the clips to play.

Yeah. Still no joy here. Nobody has had this happen? Each thumbnail is there, in the virtual P2 bin. When you double-click to load the clips, the preview window looks like it is about to display something - even the meters jump momentarily.

The preview window image, regardless of what the thumbnail looks like is black.

P2 Manager states that the P2 "cards" are good - no errors. They look like normal size partitions - just under 4GB each.

I have the same issue on my PIII Dell laptop. Works fine on my P4 Desktop. I suspect a performance issue with the laptop. Incidently, SD (DV) clips work fine on the older laptop...it is only the HD clips that will not show the video when played.

Hmm... this is on a PIII machine. Is this an issue with video card, FSB, processor?

Anyone?

1. Make sure the hardware video overlay isn't configured to display on a Video-Out device or second monitor.

2. A PIII will not be able to run the DVCPro/DVCProHD codec because it requires SSE2 support.

Hey THoff,
Thanks for the reply. Checked my video settings to primary monitor. Running PD dual core 3.0g. Always worked fine for me and now it doesn't. Can see the thumbs, meta data and all. Click to play and the meters change and the time code goes to the end of the clip. Screen stays black with no video displayed. Reinstalled P2 viewer. Same. Reinstalled Nvidia drivers. Same. Formatted P2 card in HVX200 and recorded more footage with the same results.

Any ideas?

My issue occurred when I had my PIV machine in the shop. Everything is fine since switching back from that MSI PIII clunker.

As I stated, the DVCProHD codec requires the SSE2 extensions, which the PIII does not have. It will never be able to decode and play HD video from the HVX200, at least not using Panasonic's codec. It might be able to using the Serious Magic DVCProHD Decoder, but I wouldn't expect anywhere near realtime performance.

onedog, make sure you have no other programs open that try to use the hardware video overlay -- only one program can write to it at a time. Windows Media Player, DV Rack, your NLE, etc. would all potentially interfere with P2 Viewer.

Thanks THoff, closed everything (even tried EndItAll) same result. When I play a clip the HVX P2 light flashes orange so I guess its playing. If i click off the clip the P2 slot stops flashing.

Just tried the P2viewer on my laptop which has worked fine in the past and now it has the same result. Could it be an in camera setting?

I remember that i had this issue when i installed some othr software (was the aspect trial i guess)..i am not sure if this was the reason, but in the end i formatted the drive and reinstalled the p2 viewer and it worked well then..!

If you wanna check your clips, test canopus edius4 trial, the latest one supports all formats..good luck!

Ok, this is really weird but I just installed AspectHD demo and now my P2 viewer works perfectly ????? I dont understand. Whats the relationship between these two products and why does removing Aspect render my P2Viewer useless?

It's gotta be a codec issue. P2 Viewer installs a DVCPro/DVCProHD codec (a decode-only version I believe), and it is possible that Aspect inadvertantly removed that codec during the uninstall.

I would try uninstalling both P2 Viewer and Aspect, and then reinstall P2 Viewer.
