P2 Viewer software - setting Virtual P2 Cards

I copied a P2 Card to an external USB2.0 hard drive. Within the P2 Viewer software, it allows you to set up Virtual P2 Cards. I'm trying to set this up so I can verify the integrity of my P2 Card transfers. Basically, I want to use the P2 Viewer software to view the clips I've moved to the hard drive. The problem is that everytime I try to set up a Virtual P2 Card on the hard drive, no clips show up. The P2 Viewer software works perfectly when reading from the actual cards.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks!

Have you added the path to the folder you copied the P2 contents to? Its a button that looks greyed out so is a bit deceiving.

. . . to re-clarify the point, the path must be the folder that holds the CONTENTS and Lastclip file--not any of the various subdirectories in the CONTENTS folder, or the CONTENTS folder itself. Also, you have to have the lastclip file there too.

I just make a folder for the project or shoot, then within that folder, I just create a bunch of "new folder" -s and Windows will append a number after the first folder created, and leave it named that way. Then, each P2 card goes into its own "New Folder n" directory, starting with the first card of the shoot. Quickest way to set up that I have found.

importing p2

importing p2

just to let anyone know.

I was trying for two days to import P2 card info into final cut pro from either of my two new "OWC Mercury Elite Pro Drives 300GB". No dice no matter what we tried.

Finally tried another drive it worked perfectly. My most knowledgable computer friends couldn't explain it. They had reformatted the drives etc etc. Just turns out Those drives didn't want to play nice with importing into FCP even though they worked great for everything else I tried with them, (including playing FCP clips).

Try another drive maybe. I wish I had 2 days ago.

I have 5 virtual P2 cards set up in the P2 Viewer software. Each of these folders contains the appropriate CONTENTS folder and LASTCLIP file. One of these folders' clips don't show up in the bin of the P2 Viewer, although I have verified that the clips actually do exist. Any ideas how I might get that last folder's clips to appear within P2 Viewer?

Could they be corrupted beyond the viewer's ability to "see"? Do they have a corresponding file in the CLIP folder?

Yup, I've tried all that. I even copied the contents back to the P2 card and they played fine. The data integrity seems to be there. I just can't get the viewer software to register the Virtual P2 Card where the clips can be seen/played.

tool->Setting Virtual P2 Cards
Choose the grayed-out little square icon, which is next to the red "X"
Navigate to the folder containing the contents folder (not to the contents folder itself)

then go to view->show the secondary bin->all virtual P2 cards

Should work from that point on.

Ah! I think that is the part I haven't tried! I will try it tomorrow on set. Thanks, Barry.

Yup, that was the move that put me over the edge! :)

Still doesn't do it for me. Like I said, I'm able to see the contents of 4 virtual cards, but the clips from the 5th card (set up exactly as the others) don't show up.

When using Windows Explorer, I see icons in every folder, except for the PROXY folder (which is normal).

Sorry to hear that. :( I'm stumped.

I had the same problem (I copied the clips from the P2 card to my HD with Total Commander). When I inspected the CONTENTS folder, there was no VOICE and PROXY subfolder. I added them manually, refreshed the view in P2 Viewer, and the clips were there.

I've heard a similar thing happens when you try to import to FCP - make sure all six subfolders are in CONTENTS (I don't have the camera or my laptop with me, so the spelling/singular/plural might be slightly different):

CLIPS
ICONS
AUDIO
VIDEO
PROXY
VOICE
