P2 Viewer Problems???

We have an HVX200 as a demo unit. I shot 720p, 1080i, DV, DVCPro and DVCPRO50 with it. I installed the P2 drivers and then the P2 Viewer on the computer.

When I try to play the HD footage on the P2 Viewer, it "stutters" almost like a strobe effect and then stops for a few seconds and then "stutters" more.

The SD footage plays normally, but I can only view one clip. When I go and choice another clip to view it, the P2 Viewer says that it has to shut down.

Anyone have any ideas what's wrong?

Computer: Dual Pentium ZEON 2.8Ghz, HP XW8000 workstation, 1 Gb RAM, SATA RAID 1

Thanks,

I wanted to eliminate the camera connections altogether, so made virtual P2 cards within the P2 Viewer program so the P2 viewer will look at video that I copied to my hard drive. When I try to play the video right from my hard drive, it does the same thing; The HD stutters and the SD plays fine. I can only play one clip of SD video and then when I go to select another clip the program crashes.

P.S. - I tried connecting the HVX thru the firewire cable and the P2 Viewer does not see the cards at all. The camera says "1394 Device, Disconnect" and no matter how I adjust the settings in the menu, it will not connect.

The PC sees the 1394 connection and says"UNKNOWN VENDOR AND MODEL 1394 SBP2 Device."

Jan,

I forgot to add that I my PC can see the HVX because I can navigate to "MY Computer" and open up the P2 files and see the CONTENTS folder.

Thanks again,

Chances are the hard drive you are trying to play the footage off is too slow to handle the 1080 footage. I came across this problem once while trying to play 1080 footage. 720pn footage would play ok but 1080 would not. If you are trying to use the computers internal hard drive that has the OS and all the applications on it, then it is even more difficult for it to handle the HD footage.

I believe that I have the HVX driver installed properly. I downloaded and installed the software and it said to connect the HVX via USB and I did and it said that the installation was succesful. I then rebooted and installed the P2 Viewer.

I did have a printer with an SD reader in it and I disabled that and all of the other USB and 1394 ports under a new Hardware Profile. I tried to play the footage and it does the same thing.

The speed of my SATA RAID 1 hard drives are @ 7200 rpm and they are my dedicated Audio/Video hard drives.

Thanks,
Larry

I know on my non-Dual processor it skips and I deal with it. I am looking at your RAM and wonderin what else you may have running. I am not a computer expert but I have seen on our CF51 with the Dual Core and 2 GB of Memory perfect playback.

Before you haul out your wallet though, try and uninstall and a reinstall.

Good Luck.

Jan,

I discovered the problem. I have a Matrox RT.X 100 card in my computer. After uninstalling the RT.X software, the P2 Viewer worked fine.

It seems like when the Matrox software is installed, the Matrox card wants to play the video at the same time as the P2 Viewer does. As a result the video was stuttering and then the program would eventually crash.

I wanted to let you know just in case anyone else has this problem. Thanks again for all your help.

Sincerely,
