P2 Viewer/P2 Card Manager Problems

I’m having trouble running the P2 Card Manager and P2 Viewer program. Both seem to hang for extended periods of time and when they do become active, it looks like they can not read or manage the P2 card or P2 content data on the hard drive.

What’s weird, is that the P2 Card Manager will hang and when it does become active, it reports that the P2 Card has a 0.0.0 serial number.

The card driver software works because through Windows Explorer I can view and copy the contents of the P2 card. After copying the P2 contents I use RayLight and I can view my footage. However, nothing I do can get the P2 Viewer or Card Manager to work

Does anyone have the same problem or any suggestions on what I can do to get the P2 Card Manager and P2 Viewer working?

Thanks

Below, please find my system configuration…

If your system has a built-in (or even external) multimedia card reader (CF/SD/MS etc.), try disabling that, or create a separate hardware profile (Control Panel -> System -> Hardware) that doesn't include the device at all. You'll be able to choose the hardware profile to use at boot time.

jtap, I have the same problem with p2 viewer, the program hangs for at least 2-3 minutes before coming back on. I have a decent pc, 3ghz 2gb ram etc, and i have something like an 8 in 1 card reader.

THoff, that's very interesting, I'm not sure if i understand correctly but I can't disable the device as I use the pcmcia slot for esata and p2. Could you elaborate or suggest what else I could do?

The 8-in-1 device should be separate from your PCMCIA/PCCard slot. To see whether the 8-in-1 device affects the P2 Viewer startup time, locate it in the Device Manager (Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager) tree, right-click it, and select Disable. After disabling it, launch P2 Viewer, and see if it starts up without delay.

If that does help, re-enable the device, and create a new hardware profile (Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Hardware Profiles). Clone the current profile under a meaningful name, boot into it, and then disable the 8-in-1 device in that profile.

You'll be able to choose the profile at boot time, and if you never or rarely use the 8-in-1 device, simply make the new profile the default.

Thanks for the info Thoff. The problem for me was Macdrive. Jtap, if you have macdrive, uninstall it then see if your p2 apps work. Mine run like butter now.
