P2 viewer - no playback!!

Hi,

I just installed the P2 viewer on two different PC's; one is directly connected to the camera, and the other is a laptop with a p2 card in the PCMCIA slot. Interestingly, I am having the problem below on both machines!

Basically when I launch the P2 viewer, the clips load and I can see their thumbnails on the left, but I cannot play them in the display screen. When I double click on the clips, it loads the correct timecode and properties on the right, but the display window stays black and the play button doesn't do anything.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Not the driver

Not the driver

Yeah, I tried reinstalling the driver. Didn't help. I also installed P2 viewer on a third computer this morning, and set up a virtual P2 drive. Same thing. I browse to the folder and I see the icons (thumbnails). Single click, I get all the properties for the clips. But double click doesn't play. The play button doesn't eiter. The display window is always black.

And this is the third computer I've tried this on. Am I missing something fundamental here? All I installed is the P2 drivers and the P2 viewer program itself. Do I need something else???

Thanks,

I'm having the same issue. Can't work out what the problem might be. Let me know if you solve it. I'm trying to view 720/25pn footage if that helps...

I contacted Panasonic support, and they told me that the specs of the computers I'm trying it on might be below their requirements, which I doubt is the case, because our main dedicated machine is a P4 3Mhz with 2Gb ram on it. I don't think the P2 viewer is such a compex program that it should require the latest and the greatest hardware. But interestingly enough, on their site they "recommmend" using Pentium D machines, so I installed it on a PC with "D" processor, and it worked! Totally confused now.

Im running my P2 viewer on a Compaq notebook with an AMD Turion 1.8ghz processor with Ati Xpress 200m graphics card and only 512k ram and it works great! Might be your graphics card. Are you running built in Intel graphics?

That's what I thought. It is a simple program and it should work. And yes I do have cineform AspectHD installed.

Tried it on 2 different P4 machines and a laptop (1.7PentiumM) with dedicated video card, and it doesn't work. I mean, the program works, but it just doesn't show the clips.

The only machine we were able to run it on is the Pentium D.

Have the same problem. P2 viewer works fine on core duo laptop, not on P4 desktops... I tried everything: reinstalling, getting freshest drivers for hardware, directx etc... nothing helps. The most surprising thing was than viewer unusially start to work on one of desktops (I do nothing special with drivers or reinstalling), but it crashes everytime after playing one clip, and does'nt want to show "separated" clips (two pieces of one clip laying in different virtual P2 folders). I hope Panny will release more stable version of viewer soon.

P2 viewer not working.... me too!

P2 viewer not working.... me too!

I just started having this problem as well. Running on a Toshiba 1.8 Ghz Centrino 740. 128mb dedicated ATI X700, and 1.5Gb of ram.

Worked fine the first week I was using it. Then I installed a demo of Cineform Aspect and the playback portion doesn't work anymore. I've had to use Windows Media Player ever since to check my clips.

I'm thinking of reformatting and running a dual-boot anyways. Keep my personal stuff on the on-board copy of XP Home, and the edit stuff on another partition of XP Pro.... it's due for a cleanup anyways.

Anyone know how to fix this? I tried uninstalling Cineform, but it still won't playback the clips in P2 Viewer. Or just a way to install the two of them and make them play nice?

Kevin

I wonder if the problem is with the latest version of Cineform AspectHD. I did a fresh P2 driver/viewer install on another machine (p4) and installed the previous version of Aspect HD (4.11) and everything works fine. Now I'm afraid of upgrading it to 4.13.

My problems with our dedicated PC seem to be growing though. Now I cannot even reinstall P2 viewer because it's giving me a 1904 error. I might have to wipe out everything, including the OS and start fresh.

I don't have and never have had Aspect HD. But P2 viewer won't work. But my PC is probably not up to it - Athlon XP 2600 +, ATI 128mb Radeon... Looks like it's time to upgrade again.

Any update regarding this problem? On my older Dell Latitude, I have found the playback problem only surfaces when tying to view HD resolutions. SD resolutions in DV or DVCPro 25/50 play fine. My guess is that it is a video card issue.

We have Dell laptops D600 and we are trying to run the latest P2 viewer software using the 8 gig cards, every time we try to play a clip the video will play fine but the audio will be playing at two times normal speed. The software will seem to install and work ok on some older Dell Lat. Laptops but the newer 600's have this issue. Is there a audio driver that we have over looked the fine folks have said they have never heard of such a thing.
