p2 viewer laptop question

Hi I have a toshiba 1.83 duo core laptop with 1g of ram. When I watch 720 24pn footage on the p2 viewer (full resolution full screen) it plays with no problems. But 720p 1080i and even dvcpro50 dont payback that well. Is that a matter of ram? This laptop can go up to 4g of ram. How much ram do you guys think is enough to playback 1080 footage at full screen?

Thanks,

Pedro

I would open up Task Manager and see whether the CPU or memory are maxed out. I doubt it is either, but it's possible.

The bottleneck may be the drive. DVCPRO50 can chew up bandwidth faster than 720/24PN. Is the hard drive activity LED on constantly, or does it go out at least temporarily?

Thanks Thoff,

I really thought it was a matter of ram (maybe I hoped, because it was easier solved htan if it was a problem with hard drive or processor). I'm still paying for this laptop, that I bougth solely to work with my hvx.

Does anyone run into this kind of trouble with similar configuration?

Well the good news is that with dv rack 20 hd I can run all resolutions and frame rates full screen without problem.

I will do some testing with the task manager and see about what thoff is talking about.

ps. I love my camera! but its making me understand more about computer than I ever cared for.

Hi,

I did what thoff suggested and cpu was revolving around 75 % with 720p and 85 % with1080i. With 720pn around 40%

But, I dont know how to interpret this. I would really like to be able to watch 1080i and 720 at full resolution and full screen. Please somebody tell me it's only a matter of buying an extra gig of ram.

Does any body have another suggestion?

Any inputs will be apreciatted.

Thanks,

Pedro

OK, so the CPU isn't maxed out -- that's good. What about RAM usage? How much physical RAM is available (in the Performance tab of Task Manager)? What about hard drive activity, does the LED flicker on and off, or is it on constantly?
