P2 Viewer in VISTA/XP64

Hello all. I have heard and seen a few random posts speaking of using VISTA and the HVX200. So far I have gotten EVERTHING to work except the P2 viewer. It is required for Aspect HD to render the MXF files. Premiere and even Aspect works fine (better in fact) except the lack of the P2 VIEWER keeps Aspect from working with the DVCPRO HD MXF files. Has anyone come up with a way to get P2 viewer to work/install? VISTA sees the camera and my firestore just fine so getting the raw MXF files into VISTA is quick and easy. Playing/converting, however, is the real problem. P2 viewer will not install without the P2 drivers (I don't really need them othewise) being installed first. VISTA works very much like XP 64 and the steps to get it to work in XP64 will most likely work in VISTA. ANY help would be appreciated.

Also, please don't make this a VISTA is bad, why didn't you wait, buy a MAC, etc BS thread. VISTA is the future of PC's for the next 5+ years, like it or not, and MAC's are NOT the future or soultion to anything. Yes, I also know Panasonic is "working on it" according to their site but I can't wait and all the new laptops/desktops are VISTA now. Thanks in advance.

Totally off-topic --

What other programs do you run on vista? Is everything working? Any 3d Apps, After Effects? etc?

That's my big Vista scare.

Acrobat's new version installed great for VISTA; Aero supported. Premiere and after effects also work fine in VISTA. The catch is to run it in admin mode. Basically edit the shortcut to run as admin automatically. VISTA will beep....you click OK...and move on with life. Most people try to directly run the software without admin access and a lot of the apps crash or wierd out because they were used to that level of access in xp. VISTA does this for security which is not a new idea. LINUX has blocked root access since day one; ditto for OSX. Sadly LINUX is also missing the game and software support it needs to be a real contender.

My big issue is with installing a P2 driver or at least tricking P2 viewer into believing the driver is installed so I can use Aspect HD link.

PS: As far as 3D and games it works amazing - when/if the game installs. The better memory management makes all the difference in gaming. Open GL games and apps like Maya-etc have a lot of issues with the new open gl driver support system in VISTA. A LOT of games make huge assumptions that you always have admin/root access at all times and since I use Vista 64 a lot of the 16bit installers won't work even in compatibility mode. So it's not a perfect world yet; probably never will be. Thats why I am dual booting at the moment but I only use XP to make the intermediate files in ASPECT HD and do all the editing and real work in VISTA. I wan't to drop XP all together but Panasonic is way behind on the software development. :-/

For what it's worth, I was able to install the P2 viewer and render with Aspect on my vista 64 bit quad core. Of course, it intermittently blows up, but generally it has worked greater than 50% of the time.

I have aero turned off, which I think is a prerequisite for just about any video editing app on vista

Cheers

Thanks Banana,

Looks like I should be working toward an XP 64 machine instead of a Vista 64.
