Hello, everybody. I am very new here and new to HD (new as of about two weeks ago). I love my new Panasonic HPX 170 and everything has been going well in terms of getting to know the camera. In terms of the P2 Viewer, which I have downloaded today, I am confused and confounded. The "Help" menu offers no Help at all but simply tells me the version number and that it belongs to Panasonic. An old thread from 2007 says that I should have a PDF user manual for the P2 Viewer when I installed the P2 Viewer, but I can't find it. I have tried to find this PDF in other places and did a search on the Internet but was unable to find it. I have tried following other instructions in terms of trying to view clips already on my hard drive (creating a Virtual P2 Card and then choosing the location, etc...) but I never seem to see clips on the P2 Viewer. I have read Barry Green's book and he talks about simply "create a virtual card, and then drag the thumbnails from your P2 card down to your virtual card," but I am not too sure exactly what that means -- when I create the virtual card, where is it located and where will I find it exactly? I tried dragging the Contents folder from my P2 card (my camera is connected via USB) directly to the P2 Viewer but that does not work.
I have already simply dragged my contents folder to my harddrive on a previous occasion and it worked just fine in Adobe Premiere without having to use the P2 Viewer or even having to download the viewer. I am tempted to simply stay with that approach, though I would love to be able to change the Metadata so that I can work with it more smoothly (which apparently is easy to do with P2 Viewer?)
Forgive my ignorance, but only two weeks ago I was still shooting on miniDV, so this whole world of P2 files, P2 cards, P2 Viewers, real cards, and virtual cards is confounding.
Thanks in advance and, apart from this, I really love being in HD!
John
