P2 via firewire to iMac?

someday

Well-known member
i have to make a production next week with the HVX200 and 2 P2 cards.
I have an iBook and my question is:
Once the P2 are filled, can i dump the data from the camera via firewire from the P2 to the iMac without having to use a P2 USB adapter?
Do i need a specific software or hardware?
Does it take much time?
Thanks a lot.

Ahh! The ARRI BL. Is that a 4 or maybe even a 4s? And an ARRI 5X6 matte box? Great picture, it takes me back.

Yes you can transfer your P2 files to a computer using the HVX firewire. The manual explains the specific setup (page 77). Also, you can transfer directly to a hard drive, haven't tried that yet. You will need the P2 driver which is available from the Panasonic website, https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/p2indexe.html. The transfer to a Mac PowerBook Pro was approximately 1gig/minute, which if you're in Native is 2.5 times real time. The iMac might take a bit more time because as I have found you're at the mercy of the computer system capabilities, i.e. processor, bus speed, RAM, FW400, etc.

Good Luck!
