P2 Unloading To HD

I've been learning the HVX and using a P2 card this week and had a question. I thought it was possible, after mounting the P2 on the Mac desktop from the cam via FireWire, to copy the native P2 clips to my hard drive and be able to import them into Final Cut from there. Final Cuts "Import P2" won't recognize the clip from the hard drive, only directly from the P2 itself. Is there a step I'm missing?

Thanks.

Thanks for that link. Man, I'm confused after looking at that page. The English is poor and I don't know what file to download. Most are PC or don't download properly. Anyone have the installer for Mac?

Here is the list of files from this support page...

I don't know what to download. I don't see the model of number of my P2 card. Help!

P.S. I thought I was the only one that knew that movie quote! "Souvenirs, novelties, party tricks"

Thanks for that link. This looks like the same drivers that came with the HVX's CD. It enables a PCMCIA card in a Mac laptop. I have a G5 tower and wanted to copy the native MXF files to my hard drive and be able to import to Final Cut. I can mount the P2 to my desktop now, but sometimes it would be good to quickly drage the files off and import into FCP later. See what I mean? I read it was possible to do it.

You can't drag the MXF files straight into FCP if that's what you mean. You can only pull them in using the Import Panasonic P2, because it has to wrap the files in an .mov casing, so to speak. FCP can't handle MXF files on their own. You have to put the entire contents of the P2 card in its own folder on your hard drive (a single folder for each time you put a card onto your hd), and import from there. Once you've imported, the files will be in your Capture Scratch as .mov's the same as if you had captured from a tape, and you can do as you want from there.
