p2 transfer using G5 dual processor/possible?

There is a perfect solution for the Mac Dual G5. It's the SIIG PCI to PC Card-M adapter. I got mine from B&H, part number SIIJJPC1M12S1 and it works perfectly.

What is "dl firewire?"

I'm trying to find an inexpensive way to download footage from P2 cards to our Mac Book Pro, which does not seem to have a PCMCIA slot.

He meant downloading from the P2 cards using Firewire.

If you install the Mac P2 drivers, you get the option of a Firewire connection that lets you mount the P2 cards as removable drives on your desktop. The downsize is that you need to go into MCR mode, and the press and hold the MODE button for two more seconds to establish a connection, and once you do that, you can't get out of this mode -- you need to turn off the camera and turn it back on to continue shooting.

However, it is the least expensive option, since it requires nothing more than a Firewire cable. If you want to offload P2 cards using your ExpressCard slot and not have to interrupt shooting, get the Duel Systems adapter.

No expense necessary. Plug the HVX into the MBP via firewire, put the HVX in "1394 device" mode, and make sure you've installed the driver on the MBP. If you've done all that, the HVX will serve as a free card reader, and the cards will pop up on your Mac's desktop.

Your director/cameraman sounds awfully lazy since he doesn't know any of this stuff. What's his problem? Why does he have you looking this up for him?
