P2 transfer on USB???

Sorry, camera not in front of me and have never tried this:
Friend of mine has HVX which he needs to send away for repairs because his Firewire input is damaged (yet again) from Firestore usage. Originally, before the damage, I was going to be using this camera on a project of mine. Since I've always used Firewire to transfer P2 straight from the camera (if I'm using cards), can I shoot with the camera on cards and transfer the data with USB? Import same as usual into FCP 5?
Can't find this in the PDF manual for the HVX online, and again, don't have the camera in my possession at this moment. Basically, hoping to shoot as I had planned BEFORE the camera is sent away for repairs. Apologies if this sounds elementary, just need a basic answer.

Cheers

USB to Mac transfer is not supported by Panasonic. In a pinch, you may get it to work, but you also risk losing all of your precious footage.

You could always borrow a mac laptop with a 52mm PCMCIA slot, or a PC notebook and use the USB (or a Duel Systems Adaptor with a MBP).

If you have a P2 Store that helps a lot... or find a used Powerbook on-line. I don't like using 3rd party PC Card Slot devices in general. Also, if you get an external hard drive don't get something that is really really cheap. IF the casing becomes corrupt , you could be in a lot of trouble.
