P2 timing V.S. HDD cap, Help?

Hello all

I have a two part question, I have had my HVX for a year, Im buying my second this week. I did not want to buy into the P2 cards until Panny did what they are doing now, and that is lowering the price and coming up with larger cards.

I have done some HD work with it, primarily shooting directly into my Laptop

The questions Im hoping someone can help with are this:

1. With a newer laptop with the faster PCMCIA port, & assuming I have an external USB2.0 Drive, how long should it take to offlad an 8gb or 16gb P2 card.

2. I am weighing out the option of purchasing a CitiDisk Drive to capture Video to, in addition to the P2 media. They seem to be a no-frills, yet affordable option if I just want to capture HD/SD video. I dont see much talk about the CitiDisk drives on the forum, should I be concerned about that?

1) You are confusing me just a bit with this... when you are saying 'newer laptop with the faster pcmcia port" are you talking about the expresscard slot? If so, expresscard slot will not work with p2 cards without the use of the Duel-Systems adapter.
Offload time for an 8 gig card via my laptops pcmcia slot to an eSATA drive is around 4-5 minutes.

2. Search for the word CitiDisk and you should find the answer you seek.

Thank you Jason

I think you answered it for me. However, im unclear what the duel-systems adapter is. I have a Fairly Recent Toshiba Sattelite (duo core CPU ETC...) with the typical allotment of 2 pcmcia slots. One is an express port I believe.

I dont exactly understand the claim of the playback function in the CitiDisk with HD footage. You cannot shove HD material back up the 1394 port on an HVX to use it as an HD to Analog Transcoder. (though, that feature shure would be nice of panny to offer, hint hint hint) I guess I have to hit the homework Bricks there.

Also, It would be pretty cool if someone out there made a custom molded 4 pin 1394 plug, made to fit the HVX firewire port, like a glove. Those using firewire as a means of capture, could relieve the risk of port damage from a 1394 cable sticking out the side of an Ill Engineered tin-jack. (Ive replaced them on my old VX1000, its not a job for shakey handed solderers like myself) Many higher end Digital Photog cameras offer that as an accessory or even a stock item in the box.
