P2 support in Avid Express Pro on Panther

I've searched for this...

Is the HVX compatible with Avid Express Pro on Mac OS Panther (10.3.9)? I can't download the latest upgrade of Avid because it requires Tiger (I think). If I buy Tiger, will Avid work with the HVX, and do I need to pay for an avid HD upgrade, too?

If this is the case, I am stuck with two options:

1) paying maybe $200 to use Avid with my new camera.

2) learning FCP. I have it, I know it works, just never used it.

What to do?
 
Avid 4.8 on the Mac doesn't work with high-def footage. The high-def/HVX-compatible version should be coming out this Summer sometime.
 
If you have a PC, just try to get Avid Xpress Pro HD 5.23. That works fine with MXF files (unlike FCP Pro). DON'T however get 5.0 as it's buggy as hell.

If you can't wait, you can try FCP 5 but you'll have to convert the MXFs.
