P2 Store vs Firestore FS-100 workflow

I'd like to get some of your thoughts on the pros and cons of each device
I was planning on getting the Firestore but with a couple of 8gb P2 cards and an P2 Store for offloading the cards, it seems like a pretty streamlined way to work.
Any thoughts?

I just love the P2store. Works great for a one-man band kind of shooting. It's also ver rugged and takes the same batteries. Will run all day and even back up all of the cards off one battery... The FS-100 looks like it's great for long shooting but with only a 90 minute battery, 100 minutes of capture (maybe I'm mistaken here) and it seems very plastic and unable to take any abuse...

Not like I'd want to.. but I think the p2store would be able to take a fall and continue clicking away.... not so sure about the FS-100.

The one thing I'd say though about the P2store is that I really need 3 cards. NOt because 2 won't work.. and it will, but because when I get into shooting and get lost in the content and or flow... I forget about the run times and offloading and have almost been burned. I made it last time with only a few seconds to spare.. and that was scary. So, I'd recommend 3 4 gig cards for peace of mine and for the fact that one is always being backed up. I think with the P2store and 3 cards full up... that's 3 hours of recording straight through... NOT TOO SHABBY.

Hi,

Just so you all know, there is a 3 hour battery available for the FS-100...mounts the same as the 90 minute model, but it is just a bit thicker. MSRP is $199. Anton Bauer (and IDX as well) do make adepter cables for the FS-100 (and all FireStore) models so that you can run it off a brick. The input voltage on the base of FS-100 is 15V DC...but that is to run the charger as well. The unit will run fine off of 12V, except the battery won't charge in a timely fashion, but the unit will work.

There is a white paper now available for FS-100/FCP workflow on the FAQ site: http://www.focusinfo.com/support/faq_topics.asp ...select FS-100 and it is the third FAQ down.

Hope that helps,

I like the P2 Store quite nice. I will skip the firestore, and if I need to go with the Cineporter when it comes out, I will. I am liking the Store so much, I may not though.

Hi Dean,

I checked out the link and specs on the Tekkeon product...no reason it should not work. Looks pretty cool actually and at 40wh or 56wh, it should run FS-100 for quite sometime.

Hope that helps,

New extended-life battery and camera mount for new battery work great and the battery lasted me a solid days' shooting in the heat and humidity of the deep south today. Having spoken with Focus' support people late last week I believe wished for improvements are imminent and was very glad to hear from them that they are really listening now and are going to make this thing a strong contender. I'll have much to report after the weekend of grueling locations and horrid weather.

P2 store, and 3 (8) gig cards for me.
I might just get a fourth card, but 3 cards is the sweet spot.

If/when a firestore type device gets all of the bugs out, AND drops to under $1,000 THEN I'll get one. For now, it feels good knowing that if something goes wrong in the P2 store workflo, I still have other cards, so all is not lost.

If something goes wrong (dropouts, lost stream, battery failure) with the firestore, what do you do other than have a confused look on your face?
