P2 store....verify

I just got in a very bad situation.
I was hired to shoot a promotional speaker.
It was supposed to take 90 minutes.
She needed it for a dvd, and maybe clips for internet use.

I shot 480p to the 8 gig P2 card, as there was no need for HD for her use.
Unfortunately, when the first P2 card filled up, I transfered it to the P2store.
It was in verify mode, and didn't finish the transfer before my second P2 card was also full. In a panic, I popped in a DV tape to resume the rest of the footage.

I guess I need another P2 card.

My question is:

1) How is everyone else shooting continuous footage and transfering?
2) Is verify mode on the P2 store necessary?
3) Would the transfer have been compleated before the second 8 gig card filled up, had I not been in verify mode?

That shouldn't have happened. If you were shooting 480, you should have gotten 32 minutes of recording on the card, and even with verify it should have taken less than 16 minutes to transfer...

If you need another card fast,
we still have some 4GB cards in stock for $599 + free ground shipping.

Adam, john and others accomplished the same sort of (in a multicam environment) coverage, we had three cams, three shooters, and three digital techs running cards through their laptops. Using DVCPr50, 24p and 8GB cards, we had 16 minutes of record time per card, 8 minutes to download a card and two cards per camera. Worked great copying MXF data to harddrives directly. My onlyy change would've been to use a RAID1 array like the Wiebetech Dual800 housing providing 2 mirrored drives at the end of the day.

I was getting about 16 minutes per 8 gig card.
It took about 18 minutes to transfer to the P2 store, so I ran out of memory before it transfered to the P2 store in verify mode.

Should this have gone quicker, am I doing something wrong, or is this just the way it is?

With both cards in the camera, it shows 32 minutes (16 minutes per card).

If you had 16 minutes you were probably recording DV50. If you have a recording where you don't really move or do rough things with your p2 store you can offload without verifying. Very small risk it will go wrong. I allways verify, but when I don't have the time I don't verify. It always went good.
