Well I go the P2 store today and thought to myself, this is a simple bit of kit I won't bother with the manual. Just a few buttons anyone should be able to work out how to use it.
Well, I inserted a P2 card and pressed start. It did what it was meant to and copied over. I ejected the card and the got the USB cable and plugged it into the Mac. Nothing. Nadda. Zip.
The Mac didn't see it. At all. Hmm, I thought. Better load that disk that came with it. On it went. Rebooted the mac and then I re-attached the P2 Store. Nothing. Nadda Zip.
So I got the manual out. Oh dear. The word "Mac" seems to be missing from the manual. Absolutely no help at all. in fact it is shockingly bad and I should imagine nearly every Mac owner must have had the same problems.
Luckily a search on here helped no end. You see, if you want to use it on a mac you have to hold down some of the buttons on the P2 Store in a certain order, and for a certain length of time, for it to be recognised. The LCD will change to yellow from Orange and it will work. Well done to Panasonic for telling me that information in the manual. Without this site I would have been lost!
And so to the next problem. The formatting of the hard drive of the P2. The manual says push down the HDD button for two seconds, then press start. On the top of the store is a button called HDD Cap, so that's it, right? Nope. Wrong! I spent half an hour pressing this button for varying lengths of time hoping against hope that a LCD would light so I could press start. Not a chance. Because it was the wrong button!
You see, what you are meant to push is actually not a button at all. Its a small hole that is easily mistaken for a tiny LCD light. But the manual doesn't tell you this. It just says press the HDD button. What you have to do is work out this is a button, find a sharp thin spiky object, like a paperclip, and stick it up there, and hope you are not doing terminal damage! Wait about 3 seconds and then when it all flashes, press the start button. Doesn't say any of this in the manual.
But the P2 store works great once you work it all out. But we need someone with a grasp of the English language, who nows what a Mac is, to help write it!
Rant over!
