P2 Store Portable Utility Bag...

Hey Guys,

I ordered the P2 Store and like the rest of you was frustrated to find that this "Portable" Device was not very portable itself to be carried on the belt or as a bag. I was excited about the possibility of going run and gun with this close to my person to dump my one of two 8 GB cards.

After searching around and not finding any solution available, I have decided to have a friend of mine who is a professional seamstress make one for me.

It's gonna be a canvas, form-fitting case with choice of attaching a shoulder strap or utilizing two loops on the underside to attach to a belt. It will have a zipper top to access door for swaping cards, a see-through window on top of unit to access battery meter and other functions. A velcro back panel to attach DC power or Panasonic Battery and a small closable velcro opening to access usb connector.

Like I said it will fit the form of the unit and be sleek enough to feel like a black canvas skin for the p2 store and will probably line it with yellow felt along the Vinten Proline look.

Is anyone interested in purchasing something like this and how much would you guys be willing to pay for a bag like this?

Also, what other functionality would you like to see built in? --I was thinking a felt-lined slot on bag to temp store a p2 card while waiting to swap into camera.

Let me know what you think?

It tosses in a backpack just fine.

Personally, i find the P Store worthless in its current state. I just rented another HVX for a show this weekend, and opted not to get it.

Thanks for your oppinion on the p2 store. But I am just trying to get feedback about this as a product for the p2 store, not discuss the p2 store itself.

Thank you for your reply though.

Sounds very cool. Pretty much what I was thinking would be ideal. What kind of testing will you be doing though to make sure the p2store perform well in a verticle and then a horizontal postion.. and with what type of movement would this take? Just would like to get some results.

Additional options... Ability to mount with hooks and maybe a caribiner to a tripod or such. Also a spot for any additional p2 cards would be cool. Kind of just a slip to hold the card until a p2 slot is available

Sounds like you've thought it out well. I'd be willing to pay up to a $60 bucks or a bit more.

Thanks Justyn!

I think the testing of the unit will be my slamming it through my treks through the mountains of Honduras in a month when I will be shooting for 10 days out in the field and coming back at night to offload to a couple of Hard drives at camp.

It should get beaten with dust and heat and not to mention snakes.

As far as carrabeeners, I think that's a great idea! I could put a canvas loop and include a heavy duty lanyard and carrabeaner along with it for just this purpose.

Thanks for input. I am definitely gonna put this together so I will keep you informed.

Why is it useless?

The case sounds cool. Wouldn't pay too much over $29.99.

Thanks for the encouragement. It just made sense to me and what I do.

I'm glad to see it might be used by others as well.

Sounds like a good deal! I would go for $30.00

Maybe a slot to hold an extra battery for the P2 store as well.

What about the heat of the unit? Would ths cause it to not get enough air?

Remember, no moving parts on this machine guys means lower power consumption and less heat. There isn't a vent on this machine that I can find.

lol thats a good way to get in trouble making a thread like this...

I'm sorry. I didn't know that this was against forum policy. I saw someone who was making a Flood light in another forum and thought it was okay.

If you want to delete it that's cool.

Sorry again.

I don't know if an individual case would be good... putting it on a caribiner or dangling it off a tripod in some kind of weatherproof case is asking for trouble.. it has a harddrive and the needle inside it can easily break... my buddy dropped his ipod onthe floor one time in front of me and the little harddrive inside it broke.. you wouldn't hang your laptop off a caribiner would you? i think it should be part of a camera bag or production bag... in a clear/velcro type pocket that can easily detach.. kinda like the ways laptop and ipod pockets are built into bags... I understand what you're trying to do, but even when i'm shooting tape, the camera / production bag is never too far away from me anyways...

True... I kind of understand what you're saying but in the real world when you need to be extremely portable or you're the Director & the Camera man and need to talk with your talent you don't want to have to step away from your talent to go to your production bag.

Besides if you are conscientious about it slipping off your person you could always attach it to your belt or use the shoulder strap. The idea that you shoud house this only in the security of a camera bag is like protective padding around your HVX at all times so you won't damage it.

Not very functional...

I couldn't imagine strapping it to a belt.. it needs a flat surface to do the transfer, otherwise a warning light comes on, but you probably already know that... anyhoo when you get a picture of it please post it... I'm curious.. thanks.

I would like it to be like a diaper, with velcro on all edges, so you can just unwrap it or wrap it up as needed. Also there should be loops for attatching a cord, (like a purse) or belt loops for wearing with a belt.

If the material was padded, that would also be a plus.

I'd buy it.

Yep. Thanks for the interest. I will post when something when we get further along...

I'll take note of the padded material deal.
"
As for the diaper thing. Did you want the Huggies with "Leak Protection?"--LOL

FWIW, the P2-Store has motion sensors inside it, which pauses recording to prevent write errors and disk damage. You can hang it on your belt for transport, but for offloading, you should put it on a flat surface.
