Nice find Jim. I like porta brace stuff for sure and that's not a bad price.... Thanks, brother.

Walking while downloading?

Walking while downloading?

The portabrace for P2 Store looks great. About how much motion can the P2 Store handle (in real life) while down loading?

Has anyone tried walking on sidewalk or hiking rough terrain? Don't have mine yet. I don't mind if it takes some extra time as long as the info gets transfered properly.

I'd really appreciate any info as I will be using it in a few weeks to film Arctic Fox out in the field etc. and also Ringed Seals underwater so I'll be on boats. Shouldn't be much below freezing ever (sun never sets either) I'll let everyone know how the workflow goes !???

I'll also have a firestore by then. but I'd rather use P2 store as I'll be shooting 720P 30 frames. and doing some overcranking.

Access to power is very limited.

Thanks much for all the great info on this site,

Ernie

The P2 Store doesn't like any motion/movement while operating. I've tried transferring P2 cards from the back seat of a moving vehicle and it didn't like that one bit.

I believe you can switch off the sensor system but don't recomend doing this.

so does anyone have one of these P2 porta do-dads?

how well does it work? can you really offload P2 cards with it attached to your body assuming you aren't moving too much?

My P2 Store with motion sensor active transfers files just fine while in the back of a moving wakeboard boat.

As I mentioned in another thread I keep it and the HVX in a Lowepro Computrekker. It's compact, fairly waterproof and is easy to keep out of the way when I'm not shooting. I do transfers with the P2 Store sitting in the above mentioned pack.

I had planned to use the P2 Store because I saw it as the ultimate workflow for run and gun work. But if it isn't able to handle lots of movement while attached to me while I'm shooting then I won't be able to shoot continuously like I had planned. Would it handle movement any better than just running a macbook strapped to a backpack?

Saddler,

The p2 store uses a single platter ruggedized drive that protects itself when you shake the unit. The drive momentarily moves the record head away from the platter as soon as it senses movement to prevent the head from coming in contact with the spinning platter ( known as a head crash ) that will permanently destroy your drive and take data with it. You can use the P2 store in motion but it will be constantly starting and stopping the write process slowing down your transfer and potentially causing problems with the files.

You can turn off the drive protection and take your chances with a head crash and this would provide a similar level of security to the Mac-book and a Backpack option. Your Mac uses a more sensitive multiplatter drive that is more susceptible to a head crash than the drive in the P2 store.

Even with the protection turned off, I would still trust the p2 store over a "mac in a pack". That being said, I value my footage enough to never turn off the protection mode.

Well that sounds better, I think I will go with the P2 store afterall. I just wish for the price that it offered more storage. It also would have been a huge benefit to have firewire included. When I transfer large files between my G5 and an external USB drive it renders the G5 pretty much unusable because USB ties up the CPU or bus or something that never occurs with Firewire.
