I'm reading Barry's book and Im hoping to find out some of the more expierenced users preferred methods of storgae and archiving. If you can include the equipment you use and the approximate cost, that would really be helpful to me as I am in the process of buying/researching.

Thanks in advance

I think a lot of how you archive depends on the project.

I mostly work on music videos and short form documentaries.

Here's my system.

I buy two hard drives per project. (Lacie - Firewire 800) 320g gig are around $200 each

I've never had a project go over 500gigs. For the most part I buy two 320gig drives

One drive is master and one is safety.

I copy the files from the P2 cards to each of the drives. Meaning, I don't copy the files from the master drive to the safety I copy all data from each P2 to each drive.

Just in case there is a bad sector on the master drive. (Never had a bad sector, but don't want to push my luck.)

My reason for doing this is fairly simple. Most projects I do usually need several new edits over the course of a year or two... Different versions/edits for different regions of the world etc. So it just easiest to have all my files at my fingertips.

I put a piece of white gaff tape on the top and side of the drive and label it with its drive number and content.
