P2 prices

I wonder if there is any clue about when we might see the next drop in P2 card prices. They have been steady for a while.

I hope Panasonic isn't hoping to freeze the prices now that we've reached a place where rental houses and people that work a lot can get big 64's and 32's, while and 16's and 8's from Ebay satisfy the rest.

I do suspect that most of the cost of the cards is for the the RAID type of controller within the card, so I would be ok if they didn't drop that much more... at $800.- there has to be significant wiggle room.

However, even if for some "strange" reason there were no small price drop, the question remains: When will we see the most affordable priced card double in capacity? Because memory continues to drop in price, one way or an other.

Personally I am only interested the 16GB pricing level and the effect it would have on the 8GB found on Ebay. I don't have much of an issue shooting with two 8GB cards even, and so far have been renting an additional 8 or a 16 to when we have a project to shoot and can't find one I can borrow. I don't shoot that often.

I suspect there are a lot of HVX-200/200a and HPX-170 owners out there in a similar situation. There has to be tons of people buying used 200's that just don't need multiple cards bad enough to justify spending an additional $800. So I think that 16's cheaper would entice "us" to by a second... plus the obvious effect of bigger cards at equal prices selling even more Panasonic cameras.

It would be nice if someone official like Jan, or someone else with actual knowledge of the future plane could shed some light on this. I would really appreciate it.

Suggesting that a price might drop, or officially indicating as much usually freezes current sales.

That's why I doubt anyone from the company will respond with anything specific.

Very good point, sadly.

I guess we are going to have to wait for a leak, or speculate.

In this current economic climate, just having the company stay viable and producing product/s will be enough, price becomes irrelevant if the products are NA.
