Ok, a lot of people are pretty TOed about the super expensive P2 cards. You can get the camera for 6k and the P2 bundle for 10k, but what if the prices were different...
Let's say you're a little vexxed about the P2 prices, but you're planning to get the 10k bundle anyway. But what if the P2 cards were only, say, $200? And say the camera by itself was $9600. So you could get the same deal on the two card bundle for the same $10,000. Doesn't that sound peachy?

It's like buying something when it's on sale and then the next week, there's a better sale. You still got a sweet deal!

All I'm saying is, $10,000 for HD is a flippin good deal. If you can get by with just two P2 cards, and you can forget that the camera alone costs a buttload less, then you're golden! 10 g's for HD! W00t!

Prices for P2 have already come down significantly, and it hasnt even been release yet. I think P2 will be alot easier to swallow than most people think.

prices coming down - so has the cost of terrabyte raid storage, la cie now offering new 1 Tb at 800 dollars that has usb2 and firewire 400 and two firewire 800 ports with blistering speeds! Gonna get one of these for my new g4 powerbook with FW800 connection and possibly only one P2 8gig card, waiting for the next size up to invest more in P2

I can't wait...I'll be able to edit HVX300 DVCproHD footage on my iPod after wirelessly beaming it there

I'd rather the camera was 3000$ and the P2Cards were 5000$ , hmm that's not so far off

Im thinking, if I could buy the HVX-200 for 9600$, and cards for 200$ each, I could afford a lot more cards even after buying the camera, or even high capacity cards.

Im waiting for Europe version, buying without any cards. Learn to shoot the best I can in SD with the HVX-200, and then go HD when I can afford both a card, and a HD TV :)

Seems a reasonable idea, if you want to buy a PAL 16x9 DV camcorder next year. If the quality of shooting HVX200 DV is comparable with the DVX100b ( but now native 16:9) you buy a camcorder with a lot of future possibilities and use.

Yes, but then you would see the small print that says in order to purchase addtional cards you are required to buy another camera . . . (are we sure Gates isn't behind this)?

See, the point I'm trying to make is that $10,000 for a (potentially) sweet HD camera is a great deal. But when you tell people that it's really a $6000 camera and two $2000 cards (which are unnecessary), they start whining. What if the camera was only $1000, and the cards each $4500? Then people would really complain!

I say, forget about the price of the cards and just fork over 10 grand for the package. It's an awesome deal. (Or, y'know, use one of the other solutions. Whatev.)

Maybe Panasonic is charging more than you'd like for the cards because they're countering with the low price of the camera. Don't you think $6000 for this camera, with all it can do, is a great price? So Expensive Cards + Inexpensive Camera = Good Deal.

i'm prob gonna hold off on the cards for a few months, just get the cam and shoot sd, and if i need to shoot any hd run it to my laptop. or just rent some p2 cards...

10 Grand for a large sweeping generalized format like HD isn't that great of a deal. It's not the format - it's the camera. Who cares how lossy the compression is - if compression is really something you're willing to pay ten thousand us dollars for... well - why not grab a DVX off Ebay and get the reel streem mod + mac mini - that way you get all the resolution you can get (off 1/3 chips) and 4:4:4 color space

Then spend that extra 4-5k on... whatever you need...

IE - 35 adapter, mattebox, etc...

Seriously - why is everybody all hyped up over this camera? I just don't understand - if people are saying that they're just going to shoot SD on it - well it's already been confirmed that it looks similar to the DVX by panasonics design, which makes sense, same cinegamma functions, same 1/3 ccd (except in 16:9)

Any takers care to explain this to me?
