P2 Player in Windows?

Does anyone know if there is some type of software that plays P2 files in Windows other than using P2 Viewer, P2CMS or bringing it into your NLE software?

It is really convenient to just double click on .avi's, mpeg's, .mov's, etc and be able to view them in their respective players. With the P2 Viewer, one has to create virtual P2 cards by locating the drive and folders that the P2 files reside in, just to watch the clip.

I do use P2 Viewer and P2CMS, but their must be an easier way to view the files if you just want to quickly open one up and view it. If not, do you think Panasonic will add this to an updated version of P2 Viewer or P2CMS?

Thanks,
Larry

If you've installed P2 Viewer, then you can actually just double-click the MXF's and play them in Windows Media Player. Problem with that is, it doesn't know how to unsqueeze the anamorphic encoded images, so they come up looking squished, but if it's just for spot-checking to see if it's the clip you're looking for, it can work okay.

Thanks Barry,

I do use Windows Media Player to quickly look at the video, but I don't get the audio. I'm assuming because I'm only clicking on the video and the audio is in a separate folder. I can listen to the audio if I click on it. I was wondering if there was a way to click on one of the MXF files and get video and audio. Sorry if I didn't clarify.

Thanks,
Larry

10-4. Thanks for the info. I love the P2 format and use it everyday. This is just one of those "pet peeves" of mine. I guess we can't have everything, but it doesn't hurt to ask :)
