P2 or PCMCIA reader for usb

Yes - I can see now how much annoyance has been caused one way and another with P2.

Really, the only gripe most of us face is the Cost from panasonic of their range of card readers / solutions, Most guys and there's thousands world wide who don't/can't justify the costs of the Pana reader products, they can justify the investment into the smaller HVX / HPX range of cams, but just for off loading into the Computer there's no way they want to pay more than a few bucks for a device.

Yes David I agree this has all been debated to adnausium. It's all down to what a P2 shooter is prepared to pay to satisfy the budget their working too.

If the $59 Addonics device works (and if it didn't I assume someone would have said) then for PC users that seems the obvious route for your new laptop.

If someone had already suggested my previous "wish" ...

How about this...

In the same way that you can offload from the camera to a firewire drive without a PC...why not have a firmware update that adds a new menu item.... to offload to the inbuilt SD card slot!

Even better, -assuming the SD card slot wouldn't be up to live recording- a menu option that activates a background much slower write from the P2 to the SD, so you can record on P2 as normal but if this menu option is active then a process is playing catch-up writing from the P2 to the SD.

Sometime after you have finished recording a clip you could see the background write to the S2 card "catch up" and you'd have your SD "copy" ready to remove in a few minutes.

Or has that been suggested previously too?

Hi newHPXuser,

You make it and support it for Windows and Mac, and punch them out for $50 and you'll sell squillions , I'll be your first customer...

Thanks for being my first customer.. but you wouldn't need to buy it would come with the firmware download just using the inbuilt SD slot.

Anyway if Panasonic frequent these forums who knows ... :o)

Pana and others do look at these user discussions , but they and all other makers consider it "not a money earner", they go where the income is, (and don't we all do that ? ). no one can live on love and good works alone, eventually you have to pay, that's life.
