P2 on PowerBook desktop

Mac

I use the slot in a G4 PowerBook to offload P2 cards to external drives, which has worked flawlessly for 4 months - until last weekend...

I had a new boot drive installed and the original drive cloned, but now P2 cards don't show up on the desktop - they do appear in the toolbar, but not the desktop...

I have reloaded software (including the OS) and zapped the PRAM with no luck...

Anyone have any ideas?

FYI - 1ghz PowerBook, 1 g RAM, FCP v 5.1.4 and Pro Log Pro...

I never needed one before, why do I need it now?

Does anyone have a link, when I go to the site I can only find Intel macs listed...

Never mind, I did a forum search and found it... Didn't solve the problem though... Very weird...

Very comprehensive and useful, thanx -

However, shouldn't a P2 card show up on the desktop as a drive (like a jump drive)? without a driver -

P2 Log Pro should have everything needed to WORK with the files, it's just getting the card to show up that's the issue (it did work before without any additional downloads)...

Okay, got it...

FYI, when I downloaded the driver that I was able to find on the Panasonic site, nothing changed - P2 cards would still not appear on desktop after a restart..

I decided to try the one on ProfessorU's list (which one would think would be the identical download since it's on the Panasonic site) and, presto/chango. it worked.. go figure...

Thanx ProfessorU...

lol.
Those links go directly to the panny files, so I don't have a quick explanation, except maybe you got firmware instead. In the translation of the Panasonic pages from japanese, they sometimes call both drivers and firmware "drivers"
