p2 offload problem

This one seems to have me at a standstill.

I shot test footage and sent it through a workflow just to try and catch these bugs since it is a rushed project. (christmas theme music video)

I shot 720p 24fps on HVX200
when shot the test footage I did it at 1080 but i don't understand why that would make a difference. (found the future of the video is just web streaming so found 720p to be sufficient)

using final cut pro on macbook pro running snow leopard.

I don't have a deck so I am using the HVX to import, tried the USB and firewire connections. footage shows up and I can watch it but when added to the queue fails to transfer. It isn't too much data, around 20gb. 3.5min clips or less

on the mac, you need to be using firewire. in FCP, you need to set the camera to uncontrolled device (or something like that) and you have to manually start the playback.

a btter way is to just put the camera in 1394 Device mode, and go to PC mode and transfer the P2 files to your hdd. then you can log&transfer from hdd.

not sure what you mean by "footage shows up and I can watch it..." do you mean it shows up in the log and transfer window?

two things:
1. for several reasons, you shouldnt capture to FCP directly from the connected camera. its highly advisable to copy your P2 volume (contents and lastclip) to a new folder on the computer first. THEN do the log and transfer
2. not sure about snow leopard. i dont use it, but i have heard of various P2 incompatibility...

BTW, you can use USB on the mac just fine. in fact i (and a few others) find transferring via firewire a bit flakey sometimes. after several ongoing firewire connecting issues i have moved to using USB and im much happier.

still trying

still trying

Ok I moved the files from the P2 card on to an external hard drive.
tried a computer that is running leopard(not snow leopard)

I was referencing the log and transfer window. I keep getting this http://twitpic.com/tn6cc the red stop sign doesnt give me a valueble error message just "remove" or "retry"

I tried some more test footage (different p2card) with the same settings(720p/24p) and the same problems then switched the recording mode to 1080i/24p and the clip imported fine.

so leads me to believe it is some setting in the camera. I dont understand why the recording mode would cause this problem.
Perhaps more urgently what can I do to edit this footage. the files don't seems to be corrupt since they will play within the fcp log and capture window.

I also have adobe premiere pro on my system but dont use it, maybe someone knows a work around with that.

worth a try. i recently experienced similar issue with the !! marks but i have the word "spanned" or spammed" next to the clip after i load into the player under log and transfer. Just like what you're doing. i can play my clips and all ok but it will not render out when i add to que.

Barry Green and others suggested since i already have p2cms already on my machine then i should be able to drag the file i need right into fcp. you will need to locate the audio and drag that also. see my thread here and let me know if this method works for you.

I tried the p2cms and it didn't seem to do anything but I did learn that adobe premiere pro cs4 reads the .MXF files and syncs up the the audio when imported. So it looks like I'll be cutting in adobe thanks everyone for the help.

Do we have any idea what causes this?

from my experience, id say p2cms did. but thats just my reactionary answer based on my prejudice against it.
