P2 MXF transcode to OMF?

Hello All

I have started editing with P2 in Avid. It is a little tricky and is taking some getting used to. I use an external Drive that has a million logical partions on it ( actually it is a little less than a million, more like 10 or so IE: Drive letters H-R ) and copy my P2 cards, as they come off the camera directly to a dedicated drive letter/partition. Avid sees these partions as P2 Cards which is nice.

However, It seems that you cannot completely edit from a virtual P2 card, or a real P2 Card directly without transcoding the Video. I was able to "Cuts edit" clips directly off the P2, but VFX will not render permanently for RT playback. i got really hung up because Avid (5.6) says you must Transcode each clip. I sat there for about an hour trying this to no avail. It was not until I changed my format from MXF to OMF that I was able to do this. Am I right by assuming you cannot Transcode MXF to MXF when working in the same format? (in this case it is DV50) Maybe this should be a no brainer and Im just dumb. But I have had bad luck dumping my raw MXF P2 Audio/Video files directly into the Avid MediaFiles/mxf/1 folder. That is a story for another day.

How do all of you work this?.

Also, If I shoot between interlaced and Progressive scan video, Avid wont play them back in the same timeline correctly. Premiere will at least allow me to combine same res files with different frame rates or Progressive scan and Non interlaced video in the same project. Whats up with this? Anybody have any solutions or work-arounds? It shure would be nice to be able to include HD material with DV50 widescreen material in the same timeline.
