P2/MXF file backup

I posted this question in a different thread but it kinda gets lost in there.

Anyway, I shot with the HVX200 and P2 cards. I want to be able to back up the MXF files. I am editing with Premiere Pro and using the Cineform Intermediate and want to be able to reconvert the files to a different setting further down the road.

To do this I need to hang on the the MXF files but want some way of backing them up. Has anyone ever tried this before. I would prefer to keep the off a hard drive for risk of drive failure. What methods did you use - burning to DVDs would be a pain because we have over 200GB of footage.

thanks

Quantum makes a "MXF aware" SDLT 600A tape drive that's gaining traction. It has a built-in gigabit port so files transfer at 3x play speed (300Mb/sec). Tapes hold 300 GB each and last 40 years. All files are stored in original, uncompressed format and accessible via FTP on your computer or network.

Cost per gig is about $0.40, lowest of any other options when talking volume.

200 GB isn't that much in the grand scheme of things--that easily fits on a portable FireWire drive. Get two for redundant backup and you'll still only have $400 invested...

We just bought a used SDLT 320 drive and SCSI card for about $600. Tapes, if you look around, can be had for around $25 each or less.

The drive is VERY fast, about 300Mb/sec. Only catch is, you have to have a motherboard with a PCI-X (NOT PCI-express) socket, and those motherboards are about 250 bucks.

But... it's a very inexpensive storage medium (about 10c/gig if you find deals on tape), exceptionally reliable, relatively fast, and high capacity.
