Well this is prolly a silly question, but i just wanted to make sure, that with the hvx you can only shoot in high def with p2 not with minidv correct?

You dont have to. You can shoot DV/DVCPRO to the P2 card.

You can shoot DVCPRO 50, which is 720 x 480 with 4;2;2 color. Why shoot minidv?

I also think DVCPRO 25 is the same as minidv compression and you can use the cards for this.

Doh, just re-read the question!! Yes, you can only shoot HD to the P2 card, or stream it out via the firewire interface on the camera...

According to this article you can record DV DVCPro 25 & 50 , HD to P2. The tricky bit is converting the MXF files to a format your NLE recognises.
