P2 MEMORY CARD "E" SERIES date?

Any news on when these "E" cards will be released?
Thanks, Paul

I just ordered one from Specc Comm yesterday and they were still talking about end of May for the 16 gig and 32 gig cards. They did say that they would notify of a delay.

I just talked to a friend who tried to order from Tape Central and was told that the E cards had been delayed until July.

Maybe Jan can give us an update.

Hit up a rental shop for the R series, just to get used to shooting with your new 500. Should be able to get a couple of 16's for 50-75 per day, maybe less.

Or there are quite a few people in the Marketplace selling pre-owned "R" series cards for close to what you'll be able to get these new ones for.

You should know more this week. I was talking to the guys at Abel and they expected them in LA after Memorial Day. It takes a little time to get them off the docks after that.

Well, I give Panasonic credit: they got the E series out the door in May, like they said. I just picked up 5 E series 32GB cards from AbelCine in Burbank. I'll be selling these when my 64GB cards come in around August, but for now, I'm very very happy to have these in my hand!

I also have the new PCD35 5 card reader (via a fast PCIe card connection) and will be doing some downloading speed tests over the next week with the E series cards. I'll post results when I can....

Do you have a camera which is not supposed to be ready to use the E series cards? It would be interesting to hear if they work well enough to use or whether it is worth waiting for the firmware updates before buying E cards

Im in no rush for new cards, but Ill take two of those when you resell them at a used price.

I'll let you know when I'm ready to sell, Noel!

Also, Daniel: my camera didn't need a firmware upgrade to use the cards, so they worked fine out of the box.

Keep in mind that the VFR areas are potential error zones, and the trick records in Standard Def. So if you are not going to any of these then you won't see any issues.

Best,

Jan

One of my clients wants to use the 500 on a shoot specifically to take advantage of VFR and interval recordings as well as standard HD frame rates so I don't think E cards would be a wise choice to use until the updates are out. Am I wrong?

Unfortunately they most likely will make the decision in the field as to what rates they want to use so E cards don't fill the bill in this case. At least not yet
