P2 (left in the camera) to G4 iBook workflow?

someday

Well-known member
Hi,
In a week i will have to shoot into P2, and transfer to an iBook (FROM THE P2 LEFT IN THE CAMERA) each time the P2 is filled.
So i'm here to ask for a prehempitive help.
Could somebody tell me what's the exact workflow? from donwloading drivers, problems and duration of the process?
Thank you very much.

John

I would suggest if your going to do it the way from camera to ibook, you might as well just use the camera to Firewire harddrive offloading option, it will give you way more room and be alot less complicated, and you dont need any drivers.

Thanks to both, i will read the thread Anomolee, and Jarred Land, that's very interesting, so you can just connect the camera to a Firewire hard disk (like the) Lacie and via the camera menu transfer the files? You need to do some formatting, or will the camera see the Hard disk?

Yes, that is another great option.
I didnt do it that way because in order to dump p2 stuff to a firewire drive in the field
(with no laptop) you have to format the drive completely and use it solely for the HVX
all my firewiredrives have data on them that i need to back up before i can do this.
BUT to dump to an iBook, you dont have to do this.

someday- to dump to a firewire drive you have tomake sure the drive has its own source of power AND your HVX is set the 1394 host mode.

Oh and Jarred do you know of any good (not cheap plastic like the magic box) firewire HD 2.5" casings that have a rechargable lithium ion battery built in?

yes weill drives are very cheap for external ones, i have on just for the hvx i use for offload. the camera can format and everything.
