p2 genie vs p2 store

Been reading a lot about the P2 genie lately, and it seems like an excellent product. The p2 genie is quite comparable to the P2 store, only much, much cheaper.

My question is:
Are there any disadvantages when using the p2 genie as compared to the p2 store. They seem to have similiar capabilities and, as I said, the genie is way cheaper.

Why would anyone buy the p2 store over the genie?

What are the advantages/disadvantages of each (as compared to each other).
 
They are very different. One is a piece of software that needs a dedicated computer to work, the other is an on the go harddrive with a PCMCIA slot and battery that essentially has the software built in.
 
For $1500 you can get a P2 Store that holds 60GB of footage, simple and easy and battery operated in a small package. HOWEVER, for $1500 you can also get a small laptop PC with P2 Genie that essentially emulates the P2 Store with even more advanced features. However, included in that $1500 you get a COMPUTER that can playback P2 cards, has 100gb+ HDD, a DVD burner, simple edit capabilities and an extra external battery powered 120GB HDD! I budget in a portable HDD and leave it with the clients, as long as it is FAT32 both Mac/PC can read it. With P2 Store you would have to hook it up to a computer and then dump to a drive.

Many people overstate the need for the P2 Store... in almost every case you could have a small laptop with you just as easy. At the current price and capabilities the P2 store makes no sense at all.

I agree, I wouldn't go for the p2 store either. However, in a fast run and gun type documentary situation the p2 store would be good to have.
 
Unless you have 5+ P2 cards, or 2 cards and a decent sized team, I really don't see the HVX as a run and gun camera.
 
I've got 3 P2 cards and a P2Store (have done it with 2). Works for me . . . I found I couldn't run near as fast with my laptop ;-)
