P2 from Laptop to Firewire?

Hi all:

I downloaded the software to use the P2 on my Powerbook 17" laptop and it imports into FCP just fine. My question is how do I download the P2 card once in my PC slot to my attached firewire drive?

I know that it's probably pretty simple, but I just haven't been able to do it. I've tried to just drop the "contents" into the Firewire drive, but then I can't import that into FCP.

What am I missing??

thanks in advance,

eric

Well, the contents are already there re-wrapped as QuickTime movies-- provided you captured the footage to the firewire drive as your scratch disk in FCP.

Hi Ned:

Thank you for your very quick response, but I'm not sure we're on the say page. My laptop only has about 3gb of storage left. What I want to do is download the P2 card right from my laptop to my attached pocket 80gb firewire drive.

Once on my firewire drive, I would then like to bring it into FCP.

Hopefully that makes more sense.

thanks again,

eric

What I'm saying is that you don't need the extra step. Insert P2 card, launch FCP and do Import -> Panasonic P2. Make certain that you external FW drive is specified as scratch disk. Then you will have all of your clips.

Ned.
Thank you so much. I don't know what I was thinking. What I was trying to do was "log and Capture" instead of just setting my firewire as scratch drive and then just select the P2 card and download.

It worked perfect.

Thanks again for your patience Ned.

take care,

eric
